I’m in serious need of some inspiration for wedding day jewelry. I rarely wear jewelry, so I want something special, without being too over-the-top or too costume-jewelry like. So what jewelry did you wear (or plan to wear) on your wedding day? Also, did you like the way it photographed?

I’m also not a fan of costume jewelry. I have a yellow gold ring so went with simple YG jewelry – a bracelet, small earrings, and a heirloom ring from my family’s side in addition to my wedding/engagement rings. The bracelet was a new purchase for the wedding. I figured it would be nice to be reminded of the day by wearing a piece of my wedding outfit in normal life, so I splurged. I guess I didn’t want to wear anything that would overpower my rings and I’m very happy with the photos – it was subtle and very me.
A good and easy start is going with jewelry that matches your ring (WG/YG/colored gem). Next, I’d think about your dress. Strapless? Wear a necklace. Beading at the top? Stick with stud earring and a bracelet. Unusual neckline? Long drop earrings. Etc.

This was my wedding day jewelry, not including some small white gold and diamond second-hole studs. The platinum and hematite earrings belonged to my mother. The coral bracelet was a gift from my Mother-In-Law and was the same one she wore on her wedding day. The sapphire bracelet was a gift and my something blue from my dear Maid/Matron of Honor. On my wedding day, the jewelry photos felt like a quick snap in time, but now I feel like the photos tell a big story.

Pearl stud earrings.
And my ering.
That was it. I liked the fact it looked understated but I understand why some brides want more of a ‘look’.

MrsAtlantis : What a lovely, personal touch!
fj2m05 : I love the idea of having part of your wedding outfit to wear again 🙂
I’m a couple of years out from the wedding yet, so mostly following for ideas + cute stories.
For our first dating anniversary, my (now-)FI got me a Pandora bracelet, and ever since we have filled it up with special memories, so I will definitely be wearing that; maybe as a something old!
Maybe you could include a sentimental piece of jewellery/first present from your FI?
Or a family heirloom/special piece of jewellery that you could borrow?
FI’s grandmother passed away about 2 months before FSIL’s wedding last year, Mother-In-Law gave bride, other FSIL(MOH) and myself a brooch of hers each to wear. The bride and Maid/Matron of Honor pinned them on their bouquets.

UK-bee : I love the pearls and the “understated” look! So classy and elegant.
cinderdora : Unfortunately our families aren’t jewlery wearers either (my parents don’t even have wedding rings haha), but I love the idea of that!
Does it look bad if your other jewlery doesn’t match your ring? My ring is platinum, but I’m leading towards gold or rose gold for my necklace and earrings.

cinderdora : yeah the pearls I wore were my ‘something borrowed’ from my mum. I have a pair of my own but it was nice to wear hers.
I should have added added that I had a big veil too so for me understated jewellery was enough.
unfettering : so regal! Gorg!

courtja : there’s no rule about matching! I just suggested it as a place to start. But it sounds like you already have something in mind. As long as it makes you feel beautiful, I say go for it!

I love both of your looks! The pearls are so simple and elegant.
Something more subtle like pearls may be along OP’s style. You don’t want to go overboard and no look yourself if you aren’t typically a flashy person.
courtja : I wouldn’t worry about matching your ring! I’ve seen this come up on gemstone threads before where people worry about clashing outfits, jewellery annd nails etc. The best advice I saw was from a Bee who said that your rings are like an extension of yourself – like your hair or eye colour, and don’t need to be matched to an outfit.
Besides, mixing metals is quite trendy right now 🙂

The only jewelry I’m wearing is a pearl necklace (and my ering). I feel like my dress is so blingy (beaded lace bodice + a jeweled belt and my dress is sparkle tulle + and I am wearing a cathedral veil with matching lace trim) so I don’t want anything else lol.

I’m just going to wear my ering and a real pearl necklace. And I’ve been on the lookout for some heart shaped stud earrings I like. I may change my mind on the earrings. But, I don’t plan on a lot of custom jewelry even though I love jewelery. I’m going to get married on the beach so I’m keeping it simple.
