I’ve really struggled with my dress regret. I picked out a beautiful dress from an Etsy seller that just does not work on my body. It was a gift from my parents though, so I really wanted to love it. It doesn’t fit, and even if I had it altered I just don’t think I would love it. I recently decided to go ahead and start looking for a new dress, which is opening a BIG can of worms since I’m on a super tight budget and my wedding is in 87 days!!

Anyway, here’s my old dress:

And here’s the two dresses I’m considering. I’ve found a smokin deal on both, but I can’t decide which one I like better.

Robert Bullock – Dallas

Martina Liana – 688

This was my dress, which I kind of bought with the expectation I’d keep looking (it’s from Macy’s formal gown section, and Macy’s has a near limitless return policy). I asked a poll a few weeks ago (comparing this dress to a different dress) and a lot of people really didn’t seem to like it. I think it was compared to a tight lace tablecloth at one point 😂 I agreed with many of the criticisms though, and I don’t think it fits my brunch wedding in the woods.

I took the plunge and ordered this dress a few days ago (not me in the pic). I’ve tried on similar styles and really hope I will love it but I didn’t try it on… eek! If this one doesn’t work, I’ll really have dress regret because I bought from a seller online and it can’t be returned! Guess I’ll have to try and resell it if it doesn’t work. It’s coming in the mail tomorrow! I’m not sure yet, but I’m thinking I may have the “illusion” part at the top altered into a V-neck like my old dress because the appliques don’t start until the bust area. I’ll have to see it on first, but I always feel that v-necks are more flattering.

You guys have no idea how comforting this thread is to me.

I bought my first dress at a sample sale – it was only $250! I think I really let the price woo me over. The more I tried it, the more I found it was SUPER heavy, too fancy, and I thought it was generally unflattering.

The second dress was one that I ordered in without trying. I wish I could undo this decision…since it is non refundable and I’m the kind of person who will buy clothes and keep the tags on as long as possible until I’m sure that I want to keep it. Ultimately it looks so different on me than I imagined, and I just don’t feel beautiful in it. I feel fat (because it’s too tight) and I just feel like it’s soooo shiny.

Part of the problem is also that my Mother HATES tulle and she has been very vocal about it. I know it’s trendy and we will all probably look back on the tulle dresses as a fad but I really like them. I’m going to go try things on this weekend and see how it goes. I really hate myself for going through so many dresses and I’m nervous that people around me will roll their eyes and say, Oh, not again! I also feel extremely guilty for the amount of money I am spending on these dresses (although together they’re under $1500) and I’m just…tired, distraught, nervous…

I could use a little support, bees. Thanks.

skylar84:  You’re not crazy! But I guess we also have to keep in mind that these dresses in the photos are perfectly pressed and fitted to the model, and they re supposed to make you want to buy it! 🙂 Your dress is so similar to those in the photos and you look so good in it!

jessa89:  Your second dress is stunning! You certainly don’t look fat in it! A few alterations and it will be perfect

I thought I was the only one! I bought the lace Stella York 6124, but looking back now at my favorites when I tried them on, wondering if I should have bought the beaded Stella. It’s been an awful feeling! Even looked online for the other just in case as I’m losing time now. My lace one won’t be in until June.

Honesty, I was looking at alot of these dresses, and the second choice that some of the ladies picked were very similar to their original decision…. some anyway. I think its true that we drive ourselves crazy with looking perfect and then get depressed since we think we made the wrong dress decision. I posted in another forum my dress regret and here it is. I got so many lovely comments on this and I feel so much better. I mean..you could try on a million dresses, and you just have to make a choie and one point and time. I am working on accepting my decision, and now building on it with great hair and accesories.. so i am hopeful again

I truly believe I am the queen of dress regret since I am on my fifth, yes fifth dress.

I first purchased Alfred Angelo 2499 but the sizing was horrible on me and the store really screwed up and I was able to return it for full price.

I then purchased CWG592 from Oleg Cassini @ Davids Bridal but for some reason when I tried it on again it was really heavy and hot and I am getting married outside in like 100 degree weather so I sold that one on preownedweddingdresses.com

I then bought WTOO by Bristol because I saw it on TV and LOVED the top. When it came the top of the bust was really odd to me and I instantly hated it.  so now I have that one for sale.

Mind you, I didn’t have enough time after getting my first dress to go try on another dress and order from a store so I had to buy these all online.

I found the Bertina by PRonovias and loved it but couldn’t find one my size so I purchases one that looks like it:  and I absolutley love this dress! But I am crazy and now have it for sale.

Finally I went and tried on the Dakota by Enzoani and I finally had that feeling of “this is the one”

It took 5 dresses but I am so happy it did becuase I probably wouldn’t have found the Dakota if I hadn’t been so crazy. As long as I sell the two I have then I will not have lost any money either.

I love my fiance for dealing with my craziness. His response was always “whatever you want honey” lol such an enabler!
