I’ve worn this style, not as a bridesmaid dress, I have big boobs (G cup). It was a nightmare, the options for how to twist it, so it works for you are limited. It’s hard to hide the monster boob holder you need, when your busty. They’re also not particularly flattering, they show every lump, bump and line. If you’re looking for something affordable try Azazie or Lulus.

greywacke :  SIL Used these for her wedding. They liked them at first, then hated them. Things were falling, coming untied, and many girls looked almost disheveled because they were tied improperly.

I am busty. Anything with a strap helps, and unless you want tons of cleavage, avoid anything with a deeper V.

I remember when I first saw this style of dress there was only one designer that made it (I think Two Birds started the style), but now I think many designers have their version.  Could you go to a store that carries this style of dress and have them try it on?  I think that would help in judging whether it’s flattering and provides enough support and how many ways they could wear it while having the support they would need.  I remember trying on the Two Birds version back in the day.  I don’t have a large bust but what I didn’t like is that is actually not that intuitive to tie all the different variations and have it look good.  They actually recommended paying a stylist to come the morning of and styling the dresses.  Which seems totally crazy but after trying the dress myself I can see why that would be necessary.  It made me convince I’d never actually wear it again in that many styles.

My SIL wore something similar (from Lulus, I believe) at a relative’s wedding, and she’s pretty well-endowed up top. She was able to dance comfortably all night because she taped herself into the dress VERY well. Look into boob tape/skin tape. There was a recent tutorial on A Practical Wedding, too, that you could look at.

greywacke :  That sucks.  I’d have a hard time buying sight unseen, especially since I thought the fabric on the one I tried on felt kind of cheap.  And that was one they were charging $200-$300 for.

greywacke :  I 100% would NOT choose this dress for your girls. I can tell you that in my experience as a wedding photographer, every wedding I’ve had where this has been the bridesmaid dress has been terrible for the poor girls. It sounds like from your description all your girls are a bit bigger, especially in the bust, and this is literally the most unflattering dress on anyone who is not a size 2. It shows every lump, bump, roll, etc.

ETA: I just wanted to add, I’ve seen some bigger girls rock this dress with confiance and like it. That being said I think it really really depends on your girls comfort levels. I’m a size 12-14 usually but in formal dresses usually go up to a 16. I also have a large chest (40D). I’ve seen a lot of girls my size wear and and have cringed, because I know for *my* comfort level I would NOT be ok with the amount of rolls and imperections it shows. That being said some laides are prefectly comfortable with that.

THere are several options of this dress you can easily get on Amazon with 2 day shipping for Prime members. It’s cheap and at the very least you could order a couple of sizes and have all your girls try it on. If they don’t like it you’ve still got time to return it and find something else.

There is also a plus size version:

I think the key will be having the girls size up, because the tighter it is the worse it looks.

Oh no, don’t do it! I was recently the maid of honor for my sister, and we didn’t have those dresses or anything like it, but I have a 36H chest, and I somehow thought that I could make a one shoulder dress work, bra-wise, but the thing about being busty is that your bra choices are SO limited that even if you can find a single one that’ll work, strap-wise, god only knows what it’ll do, boob-wise. So. I spent $200 on a strapless bra that crunched my ribs and did weird things to my boobs and now there are hundreds of pictures of me all over my sister’s house in a one-strapped dress with giant pointy shelf boobs, looking ridiculously uncomfortable. And I mean, she’s my sister. I’ll suffer the pointy shelf boobs if I have to. And I did. But I can promise you, I hid the “thank you” card under the biggest stack of books I could find so I didn’t have to make eye contact with it. So bra options are definitely friends for girls with boobs.

It’s possible I was a little traumatized by the experience, haha.

Also, on a side note, I saw a convertible dress like that in one of the shops we looked at, and I don’t know if this is true for all of them, but the material was clingy and elasticy almost and would, like other commenters said, show every single bump or lump.

lissadiane :  I’m with you, I hate anything strapless being a G cup none of them look good or work. I specifically picked a wedding dress with straps becuase I refuse to deal with it lol. Also big boob bras are ridiculously expensive!!!!
