I would also love to hear about what other people use!  I typically use Julep’s Freedom Polymer Top Coat.  I get better results/less chipping than when I use other top coats, but it’s still not as good as it could be.  What I do like about it is that it comes off with regular nail polish, and my understanding is that’s not the case with gel polishes.

I use CND shellac for base, top coat and colour and honestly it will still chip after a few days. I think its because the lamp I use isn’t very expensive the ones in the salons cost about £500 and man it makes a difference! I love field fox shellac its a greyishpinkypurle colour.

I use Sally Henson gel nail polish. It’s there steps…2 coats of color and one coat of sealer. It lasts me 7 days. Not as long as a professional gel nail polish…but way better than day 1 chipping with regular polish.

I use Jambery lacquer for polish without any chipping for a week, and Sinful Color gel effects for the super shiny gel look for 5-6 days. It looks great while it lasts. Removes just like nail polish.

I have the Orly Smart Gels kit.  They look professional, love it.  Removal is a bitch, but honestly I pretty much let it grow out a long time and then pick off the remnants, which is terrible for your nails (but so satisfying).  The kit included some removal pads, looked like tiny oven mitts that you soak with acetone and put your nails inside for 10 minutes.  I bought it discounted on Hautelook, I’ve seen it sold there a few times.

Seche Vite dry fast top coat is the best for regular polish. Although I just got an at home gel kit for my birthday and am never going back to regular. It’s the Red Carpet Manicure Pro gel kit. Here’s my first at home mani from yesterday.

I use regular polish, not gel or shellac. My favorite top coat — by a mile — is Seche Vite. Love that stuff.

I swear by gellish!! I did my own nails for my wedding (salons sort of gross me out) and they lasted 7+ days throughout the entire honeymoon. ๐Ÿ™‚ Really the only stuff that works for me. Plus, it is the brand used in a lot of salons.
