WOW! Such stunning cakes in this thread! No good on the diet front, haha.

Our cake was actually made for 90 people. We eloped, but I really didn’t want to change our design and I figured we could get rid of extras when we got home (we did). It was $250 from a local gal on the coast. She did an amazing job!

Bottom tier was a spice cake (with peanut butter filling) which is DH’s favorite

The middle tier was chocolate with mint filling

And our top and anniversary tier is vanilla with a chocolate mousse filling

All have buttercream frosting 🙂 The little pearls that she did are made of fondant, but she actually had a really yummy homemade fondant that I was HAPPY to eat!

My cakes were multiple single tier Raspberry Lemon Ultimate cakes from Wegmans (a high end grocery store chain).   I had about 6 of them, and the main “wedding” cake was covered totally in raspberries.  Flavor was raspberry lemon and was out of this world delicious!   Honestly, I cannot stop raving about these cakes!

Total Cost:  $120

@Barbiestylez:   The fake bottom may not save you much money. Most of the cost of cakes comes from the decorating, and they would still have to decorate the bottom fake layer.    I looked into all sorts of options to save money and finally chose a different route.

We just did a cake tasting this past Sunday ! everything was so good it was hard to pick but we went with a two tire cake to cut into for pictures and the flavor we got was strawberry shortcake with butter cream icing.. here is the exact cake she is making for us…

We are also doing 50 cupcakes… and we got 3 different kinds I picked Salted Caramel (Chocolate cake infused with a liquid caramel sauce topped with caramel buttercream and sprinkled with sea salt), Fiance picked Red Velvet (Red Velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream) and we both picked Coconut (Coconut cake topped with cream cheese buttercream and covered in shredded coconut).

We also rented a cake stand and four cupcake stands all the stands look like the one in the picture. We will have around 150 people and the cost for everything after tax and stand rental was 240.00

Our cake for our upcoming November wedding!  Our venue works with a few bakeries.  They get us a discounted price and give us a $150 credit.  When all is said and done, we’ll have paid about $200 for this 4 tier cake with alternating layers of red velvet and vanilla cake with cannoli cream plus a sheet cake in the back to accommodate all 150 guests.

This was our cake.  The 4 layers were Wedding White, Chocolate Caramel, Cinnabunch and Reese’s Peices Peanut Butter.  All buttercream frosting.  It was made to serve 125 but we had tons left over and still saved the top tier for our anniversary.  It cost $460 including delivery, setup and taxes.  Fresh flowers were another $20.  We rented the platter from a local party shop for $11.

Here’s the pic I showed our baker, as inspiration (our florist will be putting fresh, pink peonies on it):

We’re doing layers of red velvet w/ cream cheese and poppyseed with lemon custard. Our cost is $388 for approx 235 people, but we also have a deal with this bakery through our venue so it would likely be more if not for that.

Bakers are always going to try to get you to buy the “big enough” cake. But I have NEVER been to a wedding where there wasn’t a butt load of leftover cake. So many people don’t eat it, and the pieces are so small that you are going to have leftover no matter what. So go for a slightly smaller option than you think you need.

Here is ours – red velvet with creme cheese icing in the middle and buttercream on top (so it didn’t get melty on top).

@BarbiestylezWe are doing something a little less traditional.  We aren’t making a big fuss over the cake cutting – we will do it with the photographer, but the DJ isnt announcing it or anything.  We have a baker that we love who will make a smaller cake that’s only 2 layers.  We will keep the top for our anniversary and have the  bottom layer for ourselves and some family (example below- sorry the file is huge!).  We just want something simple and pretty enough, but flavor matters more over appearance.

For guests, we are using the same baker and ordering 2 big sheet cakes in different flavors. The caterers can cut ahead of time, and sheet cake makes for clean slices. It’s also a LOT CHEAPER!! About $80 for our cake, and $45 per sheet cake.

something like this that i saw on pinterest was my dream cake, but $900 for 100 people was outrageous.

We used the reception cake credit and had one made that looked just like our parent’s cakes from their weddings and put pictures of them and their cakes next to ours, sort of as an explanation of our big 80s cake. I’m glad I saved the money, and our families thought it was cute “oh, the style is coming back!” haha

Our cake way included in our package for our venue so I have no idea how much it would have costed. Our cake was 3 tiers and served 100 people with the top tier for us. The whole cake was the same flavor which was chocolate cake with “baci” filling which is a chocolate hazelnut filling and the outside was buttercream frosting. We had so many compliments on the cake, it was so yummy.

Our cake was around $800.00 include cake, delivery fee and fresh flowers. All tiers had the same flavor of the most incredibly moist vanilla bean cake with vanilla rum buttercream filling. It was so light and delicious.
