kstir2015 :  is it for a hen party/bachelorette or for the wedding day?

If it’s as part of a hen party, then the ones I just googled should be fine in size, you don’t to spend the whole party getting people to fill out letters. If it’s for the wedding day, I don’t think people will want to write full length letters – we struggled to get people to sign our guestbook. Also after people have had a drink, the quality of the letter is going to decline quite quickly, both in terms of penmanship but also the content of the letter.

Am I the only person who draws a total blank when presented with these things and has NO idea what to write? Even for a close friend?

jayrock :  oh I can come up with loads to say. None of it at all appropriate. You put me under pressure to write something lovely that’ll cherish forever and all I can think of is the most inappropriate responses.

I get what you’re trying to do here, but you may want to rethink things a bit.  It’s not really fair to put others on the spot to write a letter, especially if you don’t give them a lot of notice. And if they’re writing when there is booze involved? forget it.  We left little “advice/best wishes” cards on the tables during our reception and while we did get a lot of beautiful thoughts, we also got an impressive collection of cartoon penises and dirty limericks.  So think twice before you go crowd-sourcing something like this!

What you could do instead would be to ask the bride’s closest friends and families to give you their 3-4 favorite pictures of the bride (either by herself, with her fiance or with other people), then you arrange them into a little photo book and present it to her that morning. There are a ton of online services that let you arrange the digital images however you want, then they’ll print the pages and bind it into a nice hardcover book and ship it to you.  I made one for my sister’s birthday one year and it made her cry (the good kind of crying).  I used Photobook America https://www.photobookamerica.com/ because I liked their layout designer software.

I’ve honestly never heard of this before and I sort of agree with PP – I don’t think it will be as touching and fun as you think it will be.  If I’m writing a sentimental letter to someone I want time to think about it and craft it properly.  This feels like sort of the weddign equivalent of a yearbook where people just write lots of pat phrases and smiley faces.
