I’ve decided to let my bridesmaids pick out their own dresses. I specified a brand (Alfred Angelo — because they’re all over the country and this is a widely available brand for them to be able to try on), the color (eggplant), and the length (floor).
I had each of them choose a satin style that they liked and a chiffon style, and after seeing 4 of them so far (out of 6), I’m liking the chiffon styles way bettter!
Here they are so far — what do you think? I’m thinking the remaining two will choose strapless versions, so there will be 3 strapless and 3 with straps.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT!
Have you seen this color in person?!?!There is a Grape and an Eggplant, I think the Eggplant is deep and dusty, the Grape is more vivid! (That I remember)
I was VERY shocked at the color difference!I mean I was expecting SOME difference, but not as much as there really was! OH and when you take a pciture, which I recommend you do, make sure to look at it, because I noticed here and at Davids Bridal the change in color was VERY noticeable in pics! The girl at Davids Bridal said it was their lighting!
Just my advice/suggestion! GOOD LUCK!

@CupCakeMeg: Yes I do know that the color looks way different in person. I’m going for a really dark, deep lapis-type of purple, which is definitely darker in real life than what these pictures show. Thanks for the tip though! I agree you definitely have to go in to a store to see the real deal!

Love how they are all different but look great together!

I love your idea. I’m doing something very similar. I’m going to let my three bridesmaids pick three different dresses from the same company. All will be in satin and floor length. They will be in 3 different fall shades probably a deep plum, a sangria or wine color, and a rich espresso brown. My dress has flowers on it and I planned to have a small fabric flower detail added to each of their gowns. I love the idea of letting them choose a style that works for their own body and makes them feel good.

One of my BM’s actually chose the dress in the first picture and the picture doesn’t do the dress justice. It is gorgeous!

We are doing Black tie optional and my girls got to pick their own gowns as well. I required floor length, black with some type of bling on it. They all actually ended up choosing their gown from the same store (6 different dresses though) and i have to say that i am jealous of my girls… I would want to be one of my bridesmaids! Their dresses are HOT and they each look great because they got to choose one that worked for them. I have gals from a size 2 to a size 20 and all body shapes in between! letting them pick was great and hey, no one can blame you for a dress that they hate… they picked it!

Beautiful dresses and colour. I thinking of doing this route with my BMs. You’ve definetly promoted this to me 😉

@stellablue5997: Thanks for the info! I’m glad it looks better in real life — even though I like it in the pic too! So often the pictures on the models look so different.
