What do you think of this name? I really like it…reminds me of the Sound of Music but the spelling kind of throws me off. I guess I could do Liesel….. thanks!!
PS Our first daughter’s name is Adria.

How is this pronounced?
I just want to share from the perspective of someone with a YOONIQUE name… It sucks. It really is annoying to the owner of the name. My whole life it has been an annoyance. I have been harrassed in liquor stores, been called the wrong name at graduation even though I put the phonetic spelling on the card and my mortgage was delayed a week because they spelled my name wrong. Those are the big ones but the day-to-day stuff is irritating too. Please Please Please Don’t :-/
Maybe you could find a simlar but more common name?
ETA: I adore the name Adria! it’s unique enough to give character but won’t cause any issues as she grows.
ETA 2: I recognize my post is super dramatic lol but please just take it into consideration.

I love it! It sounds so pretty and sing song. It’s very unique but in an old fashioned way.

j9marie: I thought i was the only one… it sounds like a beautiful name but I prefer the alternative spelling you provided. It’s easier to help with pronunciation 🙂

Liesl is not a made up name at all… it’s just German! Come on, people. I like it. No no no to Liesel, though, stick with the original.

onceuponadream: bnvw882: it’s a German name. It’s not common in the US although I’ve known two women/girls named Liesel, both had German ancestry. I would definitely not include this name in the annoying made-up name trend.

If you do it definitely add the “e”, I think it makes it easier to pronounce. When I clicked on this thread I thought it said “lies!”

I think it’s a great name, totally under used in my opinion. I think I prefer the Liesel spelling, unless you’re German. It’s got that cute vintage vibe that’s popular right now, but is easily recognizable and pronounced because of Sound of Music.
ETA: ha…maybe not if everyone thinks it’s made up?!?! I still think it’s a fabulous, very much established name!!!!

My grandmother was 100% german..think it would be a good tribute to her 🙂 Liesel reminds me of Diesel though. But I def wouldn’t do Liesl….
