Isn’t it also the character from the book theif? When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it said “Lies!”

Love it! I’ve loved it since seeing The Sound of Music! I think adding the extra e at the end would help with pronunciation.

I don’t consider it “annoyingly unique”. I love, love the Sound of Music, but even if someone’s not seen it, it’s not a weird name. My ex had a boss whose son was named Haircut, and the waitress at a restaurant I once went to had a nametag that said ‘Shakealicious’, so by contrast, Liesl is exotic and Germanic and beautiful. It’s like a fancier version of Heidi!

I would NOT change the spelling. I kinda hate when people tweak spellings anyway – that to me, is making things trickier, even if your intent is to make it simpler. The spelling is Liesl, so stick with Liesl, and as PP said, it looks waaay too much like Diesel.

cherrycoke:  i’m not a fan of the name Liesel but that’s only because I knew someone with that name who was a bit of an unstable druggie.. BUT everyone knows someone like that and they all have different names so don’t let that stop ya!

I scan read the title and thought it said lies! I saw the baby catagory so clicked to see what lies there were about babies then got super confused an had to re read everything properly. It’s not my favourite name I think any child named it would have to live with doe a deer for their entire lives and hate the sound of music.

Yeah like everyone else here I saw Lies!  I thought it was a drama or rant board.  I was mistaken :/

    Definitely spell it differently

I love it and I like the original spelling too. My sister was an au pair in Germany for little girls named Liesl and Brigitta- both named after the Sound of Music characters.

I love it, love the som, and lol to anyone who thinks its weird.

It’s German/Austrian, which is not the same as made up at all, and just because some people don’t understand the proper spelling doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
