–Leave it long and blonde
–Cut it into a short blonde bob
–Leave it long and dye it dark
I need your help! My Fiance mentioned in passing how good I would look with dark hair. Ever since then I have been toying with the idea of taking the plunge. I have been a blonde for all of my 27 years. I started highlighting my hair at 15 and have been doing it ever since. My natural color when it starts to grow out is a dark/dirty blonde.
I am fair skinned and blue eyed, and Fiance says it would make my features “pop.”
My concerns are:
1. It might ruin my hair once I decide to go back to blonde!
2. What if it takes away from my “blonde” personality?
3. I have heard dying dark over lighter hair will cause the color to fade quickly.
4. If I cut it into a short blonde bob, I am afraid I will wish it were long when I get pregnant…long hair always hides a chubby face!
First 2 pics are me now with dark wigs on..I just wanted to see my face with dark hair, after that are pics of me as I am now with long blonde hair, and then a pic of the blonde bob I would get it I decided on that option.

I think the brown is kind of harsh? I dunno…I think I like the blonde bob idea!

First of all, you’re ADORABLE.
I can totally relate- I too am naturally dark/dirty blonde. I too have been highlighting my hair since HS. I’ve been golden blonde all the way up to platinum blonde.
For Halloween a few years back, I wore a black wig and people obsessed about how my eyes popped, how great I looked, how no one could recognize me, etc. They loved it. So in November I decided I wanted something different. I had attempted to go darker in the past with lowlights, but the color would never hold. That time though, I told the hair stylist I wanted to be chocolate brown. And boy, did I get it! My hair looked like your wig. People didn’t recognize me at work. I didn’t recognize myself in pictures. I felt like I had to constantly wear bronzer because I felt the dark hair washed me out. And yes, after about a month or so, it did fade out to a reddish light brown which was horrible, lol. I’m back to a medium blonde now, and am going full on light blonde for the wedding.
I guess my advice to you, is if you have no big life events coming up, go for it! IT’S ONLY HAIR DYE. It’ll go back to blonde eventually. If you want to try something new, go for it!
I’ve learned though, that I am a blonde at heart. I’m not made to be a brunette. And it took me a drastic dye job to realize it. And my Fiance likes me better as a blonde too 🙂
As for the cut- again, it’s only hair. It’ll grow back. But you have a similar look/face shape to Victoria, so I think you would ROCK IT!!!!!!!! I support the cut. But only if you stay blonde. Maybe go even blonder.

I think you make a great blonde! I also got tired of being blonde and went dark…it’s just a totally different look but I think you’ll be gorgeous no matter what!

OK no joke, this post could have been written by me… I’m also 26, lifelong dirty blonde/light light brown, blonde highlights since age 15, toying with idea of going brown, Fiance said “that would be hot” LOL! I am going to take the plunge in the fall, I think blonde is a great fun summer color, but when autumn rolls around I’m doing it. I think that first brown wig looks awesome on you! I don’t like the shorter darker one much, maybe that one is a little too harsh. Definitely go for it!! You can also start light or medium brown and go incrementally darker.

I would go for a medium brown to golden blonde. Both the dark brown and the platinum blonde seem a bit harsh for your skin tone.

I would try going brunette, but if your worried about damage to your hair if you decide to go back to blonde, try a lighter shade of brunette, more of a caramel colour, that way it would be easier to start with highlights again and work up gradually to going back to blonde.
If you go brunette,I woudl keep the length,it frames your face lovely, and I think the brunette bob might be too harsh. But I love the blonde bob too! What is your hair condition like?thick, fine? hair type can determine what style would work

I’m also a natural blonde, but I’ve been coloring my hair to be a med/dark brown for years. I agree with your Fiance about it making lighter features pop. I also have fair skin and blue/green eyes. I recently went blonde again, but dyed it back to brown very shortly. I don’t think the blonde looks bad, but it makes me feel a little washed out. I guess the best way to describe it is the dark hair looks much richer.
Also, coloring your hair a darker shade is much less damaging than highlighting/bleaching your hair to make it lighter. So, you don’t have to worry about that. The only thing that could be a slight problem is if you don’t like it and decide to go back to blonde. The process of bleaching your hair out again can be damaging, but (as long as you have a good colorist) nothing deep conditioning can’t fix.
I wouldn’t cut your hair. I cut mine into a bob 2.5 years ago, and I’m still waiting on it to grow all the way back out (granted it was very long before I cut it). If you are even slightly nervous/concerned, I wouldn’t do it. It takes way too long to correct itself IMO. Hope this helps. 🙂

I’m a chamelion with my hair, so I understand the urge… but your wedding is in June?
Wait to make any drastic changes until after the wedding… But I personally really like the long blonde…
That said, You could try out a bit darker color by getting some brown low lights and see how you feel, like dipping your toes in the water and seeing how it feels… then if you like it maybe take it a bit further with heavier darker lowlights until you are satisfied. But wait until AFTER your wedding… You want to look the way you always have for your wedding, don’t do anything drastic or you’ll look back in 30 years and wonder what the heck you were thinking!

The blonde looks much more natural/less forced than the brown against your skintone and features. Also, have you ever tried dying it brown? My hair is pretty much the same color blonde as yours, and I tried to get it dark brown about 5 times (with professionals) and the color would just not hold in my hair. It would end up turning red.

Thanks guys!! The comments are so helpful. I am afraid the short blonde bob might be a lot of styling since my hair is naturally fine and wavy…and I would want it to look good. Long hair you can just throw into a ponytail if it’s looking ratty.
Someone said something about feeling washed out after going dark…funny you said that bc after putting on the dark wig I immediately pulled out my bronzer bc i felt kind of like I looked too pale.
The dark makes me feel mysterious and sexy or something…which is not something you feel as a blonde. 😉
This will sound silly, but people at work call me “blondie” and “barbie” which I like…so I’m going ok, am I going to fade into the background and lose character if I go dark?
Keep the comments coming, it’s really nice to get nonbiased girl input!! Especially because a lot of you have been there and done that.
🙂 I may go back to the wig shop this weekend and try on a couple more long dark wigs, and maybe a short blonde one since I don’t have a pic of that. I will post if I do.
Thanks again, you guys rock!!

I think the dark brown would wash you out. You look great with blonde hair.

I think the dark hair makes your eyes really pop but it does seem a little too dark. Maybe a warmer brown tone would work better? That being said, the blonde in your second picture looks great too. The second picture of you seems pretty light but that’s just my opinion.
I too am a lifelong hair dyer. I was blonde for years but have now settled on a coppery red. I definitely had to change up my makeup when I drastically changed my hair color but you end up getting used to it. I’ve found that changing up my eye shadow color makes a huge difference. Changing the color of your blush helps too. When I went red, I went to my favorite makeup counter at Nordstrom and had the girl re~do all my colors and it definitely made me feel much better about the huge change.

Blonde. and the bob. It would look totally awesome on you! I’ve had one before and I really had no trouble maintaining it! I can really look good when you have naturally wavy hair!

Blonde!!!! No doubt about it 🙂
