I’ve been incredibly happy with 2 purchases made from Lightinthebox.com.  I ordered my reception dress from them, and COULD not believe the quality!  The fabric is incredibly thick and the dress is made with boning and double layers.  I honestly do not think you will be disappointed if you order from them.

I custom made (measured myself and send in the measurement) two gowns from them on two purchases.  and I had to alter both of them afterwards.  (for example, I put in 27in waist, one came in 26, the other like 29 or 30in)

The fabric quality is good but the handywork is really bad (my tailor said it was poorly done).  One of the dress was off so ridiculously (they made the waist 2 inches more on each side and I looked like a bucket) that I refused to wear it for my pre-wedding shoot.

Customer service was good and they compensated me back on the alteration and gave me a credit coupon to use for future purchase.  But given I didn’t know I could ask for alteration credit on the first one (it was 3 months prior to my second purchase).  I had to shell out some money for alteration and it ends up around the same as dress bought in store.

The problem is, you won’t know which dress is good as you don’t know which tailor they used in the origin to make your dress.

Oh, and I didn’t pay import tax on the first dress but end up had to pay tax on the second dress. (looks like it’s hit and miss) and I had to pay 20-30 dollars more.  (sigh)  so it wasn’t as cheap as I planned before.

I know people ordered from this site on “evening”  gowns to events all the time.  That’s why I used them in the first place.

So my suggestion is, be cautious and be prepared.  If just 20-30 dollars difference, I would suggest going to the store as you might end up paying as much.  But if the $$ difference is a lot, then it’s worth a try.

I don’t have any personal experience, but I’ve heard a lot of good things, and a lot of bad things. I think it’s really just a toss up. :/

I ordered two dresses and they were both great.  They ended up being too heavy for our BMs (our wedding is outside, in June, in Florida haha) because they were multiple layers and made of polyester chiffon with a satin underlay.  However, the quality was great with boning, a builti-in bra strap (really great for the strapless dress), the color was just as expected and they fit extremely well even though I did not do the custom alterations.  I wouldn’t sugget doing the custom fit, you would probably pay the same amount to have minimal alterations done in person and that is more guaranteed to fit to your body.  They do state that you can get a full refund if their measurements are more than two inches or so off, just make sure you read all the info before you order.  I live in Florida and received mine about 20 days after placing the order.  I will be cutting one short and wearing them to future events myself!  Read the customer reviews thoroughly on the site, it really helps to know any fit or style issues before you order.

I ordered my wedding dress from lightinthebox and it’s beautiful.  The fabric is very good quality and it’s put together very well.  I am having some alterations to the bust because it’s cut lower than I thougth and it gapes a bit (I have large breasts which accentuates it) but other than that I love it.  I also sent my measurements and they matched them wonderfully.  🙂  I have about $240 for my dress and it looks like i paid much, much more than that.
