i just found out that our city is being awarded (pfffft) a lingerie football league team. the whole thing is such a joke. of course, to play football and get any kind of recognition for it, we have to take our off clothes and be objectified. what do you bees think about it?

I’m not entirelly sure how it works…could you explain it?

I saw a commercial for this and I thought it was fake. Didn’t know they awarded teams…

I think it’s dumb…and pathetic.

This sounds like something I would totally do if I was not married… pregnant….and 33 years old. At 25 I would have been all over this. lol!
As someone who would totally sign up for a lingerie football league, I don’t think the girls who do it look at is as objectification. So as long as THEY aren’t offended or feel degraded I don’t see why anyone else should have a problem with it. No one is making anyone sign up. The girls are participating because they think it looks fun and because they want to.

check it out. it’s real – they have team names like bliss, passion, crush, seduction… http://www.lflus.com/
@flamingred: i understand what you’re saying about how no one is making those girls sign up… however, i do think that it screws things up for the rest of us. it feeds the fire and keeps the notion going that women are to be looked at and used as decoration. it’s just sad to me that women can’t play football and be taken seriously.
@stephinPA: pathetic is right!!

@flamingred: Agreed. It’s all relatively harmless.

@mrs.jk: I personally don’t know too many girls who would actually sign up for a serious female football league. Would anyone here do it? I know I wouldn’t. lol.
Also, women who don’t want to be looked at as decoration, most of the time, are not. The girls who want to run around in hot pants know what they are doing, know who is looking and know why. I think most women do a good job of not being objectified if they don’t want to be. I guess that’s why I don’t think it’s a big deal. although I do think it’s dumb that your city considers it an “award”. I could think of a few awards that are better than football in your undies.

@flamingred: I’m with you – If I were good enough to actually make one of these teams, I’d play in a heartbeat! I love football and would wholeheartedly enjoy playing in a female full-tackle football league.
The uniform choice wouldn’t offend me at all either. These women know what they’re getting into when they sign up and if they don’t care and don’t feel objectified, why should we? Plenty of women outside of this league wear things every day to get men to look/stare at them. Everyone is free to make their own personal choice of what to wear in different situations and if some women want to wear lingerie while playing football, more power to them!
