Bees,
I totally freaked.
(FYI I am not married yet, so I NEVER wear or handle my wedding band except to clean it, so I was a bit dissapointed and I hope it doesn’t happen to my e-ring)
It literally happened 20 minutes ago…a little diamond fell out of my wedding band right after I cleaned it! π My heart began to race and I looked everywhere, and then realized it must have gone down the drain when I rinsed it off. Now, I don’t have to worry because our jeweler at Robbins Brothers gave us ring insurance for any stone that may fall out–but I am just sad because I thought a “bezel” setting was the safest and I JUST had both rings inspected this month after New Years.
Is this common? I just felt like it would never happen with this type of setting.
Here it is…it’s the second to the last one if you can spot the empty filling. On the bright side, it might be my chance to add a colored stone if I wanted to–maybe a blue diamond??? (I am an artist and I love me a pop of color)

Maybe that one stone wasn’t set quite right or maybe you scrubbed a little too hard when you cleaned it? I don’t own any bezel set jewelry so I don’t really know if it is common… I would check with your jeweler and ask if it is something you need to be concerned about.

Oh no! I’ve always LOVED your wedding set and I’m so sorry that you lost a stone! I thought bezel settings were supposed to be one of the strongest, but it may have been possible that not enough metal was set around the girdle and the diamond was able to slip out. I have a half bezel setting and managed to knock my diamond loose. It truely can happen to pretty much any setting, even flush settings.
I really like your idea of setting a colored stone in there tho!

@LunaMin: Yep, the wedding band doesn’t look as “clean” and carefully made as the engagement ring regarding the security of the bezel setting–so I think I might have them take a look because some of the diamonds are protuding a bit too far out π

@Eight6Eleven: Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking happened. Thanks, I am going to ask if they even offer colored diamonds/stones! Wish me luck π

TOTALLY common for those little stones to fall out. Your jeweler should replace it for free.

I don’t have a bezel set, but I lost a tiny diamond from my halo setting a few days after I got the ring… It was because we went from a size 7 to a size 4 though and they fixed it within a couple hours for me. Ring is as lovely as ever. π

Okay we too it in and they are going to inspect the rest of the diamonds while replacing the missing one. It’s going to be a week so not too long π Thanks, Bees. And it looks like I can’t do the colored stone since it would cost more–oh, well!

@craftybridelovesnerdygroom: Oh no….I’m so sorry this happened to your ring! That’s crazy, my ering and wedding band are bezel set and I’ve never heard of a bezel set stone coming out. I have heard it’s the most technically difficult way of setting stones, so perhaps they made a mistake when setting it the first time? Glad you were able to get it fixed quickly though!

if you have never even worn the ring out of the house and you had just gotten it inspected, then yes– this is totally their fault and was probably a flaw in their setting.
IMO, a stone should never fall out just because you scrubbed it with a plastic bristled toothbrush. settings need to endure much harder things on a daily basis.
