I think being engaged might be good for you since you have been together so long, its kind of a transitional phase in your relationship and can maybe make things seem a little more new again?  And if you want to plan a wedding you would need some time to do that. What I think is odd is the fact that your boyfriend is weird about setting a date.  I mean after 13 years whats the hesitation about?

I think we need some more details to figure out what’s going on. What does being engaged mean to you two? Do you want to plan a wedding? Is marriage simply a paper to you or does it mean something else? Why did your previous engagements break off?

@2beme:  Do you think he doesn’t really want to get married then? Or does he not want to have a wedding? It seems wrong to start out a marriage with you saying you have trust and communication problems.
