Hi all! I am switching to Lo Loestrin Fe after my current pack of pills. I’ve been taking Tri-Sprintec for a year and it makes me feel awful, so my gyno just gave me four months worth of samples of Lo Loestrin Fe.
If you are taking this or have in the past, please give me some feedback and reviews!! 🙂 Good? Bad? Was your period shorter because there are only 2 placebo pills?

@vlbee: I’m on the non-fe version and my periods were a day shorter (so they went from 4 to 3 days) even though I would have a full seven days without hormones. I haven’t noticed the flow being lighter, though.
Ironically, I’m being switched to ortho next pack…

The biggest difference is that Tri Sprintec is triphasic (there are 3 different dosages during each cycle) where as Lo Loestrin FE is closer to a monophasic regimen (but not quite) – most of the tablets are all one strength. Your new medication also has more active pills (which may decrease the length of your periods).
Lo Loestrin FE:
Ethinyl estradiol 0.01 mg and norethindrone acetate 1mg [24 blue tablets] and ethinyl estradiol 0.01 mg [2 white tablets] and ferrous fumarate 75 mg [2 brown tablets] (28s)
Day 1-7: Ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg and norgestimate 0.18 mg [7 gray tablets]
Day 8-14: Ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg and norgestimate 0.215 mg [7 light blue tablets]
Day 15-21: Ethinyl estradiol 0.035 mg and norgestimate 0.25 mg [7 blue tablets]
Day 22-28: 7 white inactive tablets (28s)

Every pill is different for every woman, yet I wanted to let you know I had HORRIBLE experiences with Loestrin Fe. I gained a little bit of weight (normal), but the worst part was how it affected my eating. I have a fast metabolism so I’ve never had to diet or watch what I eat (and when I was on Loestrin, I was in college so I wanted to eat all the time). However, the pill affected my hunger. I would have an appetite and want to eat normal sized meals, yet after eating only a few bites of food, I would feel nauseous and couldn’t finish eating. It wasn’t a stomach bug because it lasted the entire 3 months I was taking Loestrin Fe. I gave it a few months to kick in, yet it didn’t work for me. I switched to Yaz and that works wonderfully.

I had terrible experiences with this one too, however sometimes you have to try a couple to get one to work for you. LoFe made me a stinking psycho. I remember carrying laundry up the stairs and I just started crying for no reason. I would just cry about nothing. It was crazy. As soon as I went off of it, everything was back to normal. I was on seasonale prior to TTC. I loved it and I had the least amount of side effects

Well, I’m the opposite of Melanie! As she said, every woman has a different experience, and I’ve been on Loestrin fe for quite some time (as in years) and have never had any really bad side affects. I have noticed that it lowers my libido just a bit, but not too badly, the birth control still gets used plenty if you know what I mean, haha. And I went from having a week and a half long period, during which the middle 4 days I felt like dying, to only having a 3 or 4 day period with mild cramping for one or two days.

I was fucking nuts the first pack. One night I stood in the middle of the living room and just screamed as long and loud as my lungs would let me until I couldn’t scream any more. After the first pack I was COMPLETELY normal with no side effects.

I love Loestrin FE! I struggle with finding BC that will not make me crazy or depressed. I have been on this for almost a year and its wonderful. I barely even get periods now (maybe last 2 days).

I’ve been on it since February. The first month, I had a little spotting and kinda severe cramps, which was annoying, but after that it’s been wonderful (for me at least). I get my period of the Friday of the blank pill week, and it’s gone by Sunday–which I LOVE!. the spotting and cramps are completely gone. I haven’t had any issues with mood swings, or weight gain either. In fact, I’ve lost weight since I started taking it–from diet and exercise though, the pill didn’t help me lose weight, it just didn’t cause me to gain or hold onto weight. I would try it for the samples she gave you and see how it works for you, because like people said before it affects everyone different. Just remember, it takes your body about 3 months to adjust to new pills. For me, it seemed like it only took one but like I said, everyone’s different.

Really short periods, but I’m still having spotting mid-cycle, and I’m on my fifth pack. I also had really vivid dreams/nightmares the first two months. I’ve gained some weight and my boobs have gotten bigger, but I think that’s just because I wasn’t on my wedding diet anymore to be honest. It has definitely affected my libido, though, so I’m thinking about switching to something else, but I keep procrastinating.

I am on it now, have been for about 4 months. It’s ok. I like Lo Loestrin better than Loestrin 24. The side effects are minimal for me but still there. The main one for me would be headaches or just general head fogginess. Also a loss in libido but again not as bad as it was with Loestrin 24. Hope its going well for you!

I was on LoEstrin for 2 years (I just stopped taking BCP because we’re going to TTC). I really liked LoEstrin, I didn’t even have a period most months and when I did it was very light.
They didn’t make me moody or emotional or anything. But I’ve never really been affected by any BCP in any other way except decreased libido, and every type I’ve been on has done that to me, LoEstrin included.
