We don’t want our family to have to travel too far but that location that we really love is 3 and a half hours away from our home town. How far were your reception spaces or wedding venues from your hometown?? I’ve realized I’m trying to care take everyone else instead of doing what the fiance and I really want.

@thompsonbfilter: I live in an area where everyone is used to traveling a couple hours to get anywhere lol but I think you should have your wedding/reception wherever you and your fiance want. You want to look back in 20 years and love the venue you got married in, not remember that it was so convenient for everyone.
As long as your wedding day isn’t on a week day or the ceremony and reception aren’t 3 hours from each other I think you should be ok.

@ValerieBee03: What about on a Friday?

As long as the reception and the ceremony are no more than 30-45 minutes apart, I think it’s fine!

@thompsonbfilter: Well if it’s on a Friday just consider that people who work Fridays will have to take AT LEAST a half day off if not more and also they’ll have to take off Thursday for the rehearsal. If you think your family will be ok with that then go for it, but if you think it’d make it difficult for everyone I’d either switch to a Saturday, or find a venue you love closer to your hometown, or don’t make the rehearsal mandatory or something.

I would also make sure there are hotels near by And their prices aren’t too bad. No one is going to want to drive home 3+ hours the night of your wedding.
By by having it on a Friday, 3+ hours away, people will have to take that day off work. You might get some declines because of that.
