We are getting married in Beacon Hill in Boston. They hotels in the area for room blocks are SOOO expensive and parking can cost ~ $40 per day. So we have found a less expensive hotel in Waltham, about a 15 min ride to the venue … we will be providing guest transportation to and from the venue on the wedding day. However, if we blocked rooms at a hotel closer to the city, and we found a few room prices that would be reasonable, ~ $150 per night, guests would have to pay parking, between $25 – 35 per day.
If you were a guest, would you rather a shorter ride to the venue, about 10 mins, but have to pay for daily parking at the hotel? Or would you rather stay farther away, about a 20 – 30 min ride with traffic, and have free parking and only have to cover the cost of you room?

Why don’t you get a block at both hotels and let guests decide? Personally Fiance and I always stay close to the venue because he’s usually unable to drive at the end of the night… but others may prefer the alternative.

If you are providing transportation between the hotel and venue on the wedding day, I would prefer the hotel with free parking. It doesn’t really make much difference to me if i’m sitting on a bus for 15 min or 30 min as long as someone else is driving 🙂

I’d try to do blocks at both and give your guests the info so they can choose.
However, if you had to pick one, I might go with free parking, especially if your guests are from areas where parking is free/cheap normally. I’m from such an area and it totally irks me when I visit Chicago (or other large city) and have to pay $50/day to park at the hotel!
