I have pretty severe PMDD and was on Yaz for some time. Unfortunately I can’t be on pills, they just don’t work with my pmdd anymore BUT that said the ONLY thing I would consider going back to would be the Loestrin24FE. It was the next most minimal side effect next to the yax. The loestrin made me only slightly weepy as opposed to most other pills which made me everything from super depressed to very angry. As far as other side effects, I had little to no weight gain but my doctor suggest I stay away from all carbs for the first month on loestrin to counter act any cravings or weight gain I might get. It worked great and I did lose 5lbs to boot! I had no dizzyness or headaches everything else was really great with the loestrin. it was by far the best out of all the “regular” pills (as opposed to the yaz and yasmin) and it made my skin glow! If you don’t have any PMDD issues you should have GREAT results with Loestrin!

I love Loestrin24! I’ve been on it almost a year now and my periods got lighter and lighter, now I only have a period about once every 3 months or so. Also I have virtually no cramping (birth control pills in general greatly reduced my cramping, but it’s even less on Loestrin24.) I’ve been on birth control pills for 9 years now (probably 5-6 different kinds over the course of time), and Loestrin24 is my favorite to-date.  I never had any “issues” with the others, I just love the shorter/lighter or often non-existent periods I have on Loestrin24.

My future sister-in-law tried it though and she didn’t like it. It actually caused her to have frequent random periods and cramping, and sent her emotionally off-kilter; I guess for some reason it really didn’t work with body. (I’m not sure if she’s had those same problems with other birth control pills or not. It could be just her reaction in general.)

I love Loestrin24 but I am going to have move away from it very soon (after 4 years) because I just can’t do the $40/month when I know there are $10/month options out there.

I take it and love it, much for the same reasons abbyful states. It took my body about 2 months to adjust (in the meantime I had headaches in between packs). After the first two months, they subsided and now I’m fine. Like with all hormones, everyone is different. I never had wild mood swings, and I’ve taken four or five different types of pills. I was concerned at first about Loestrin, but now I just love it and I’m convinced it’s better for my body in the long run.

I adore LoEstrin 24, but the generic doesn’t work as well for me. Still good, but periods not quite as light, a little more cramping. Overall, LoEstrin was basically a miracle worker for me – I used to be in bed a few days a month with cramps so bad I just couldn’t function and bloating like crazy. LoEstrin really took that away.

Unfortunately it does lower my sex drive. I think most pills do that, though.

i was on it for a year, and i liked it well enough but i had HORRIBLE stomach cramping for the first 2-3 months on it. like, had it every.single.day. but then it went away and it was fine. my body doesn’t like hormonal BC though–been on like, 7 things and eventually hated all of them.

@lisalew5472: If you don’t mind me asking, is your copay $40 too? I’m wondering if maybe it’s just my insurance and not the drug itself. I really don’t want to switch!! I bet freaking Viagra is cheap.

@Edina, my OB/GYN gave me a coupon so I get it for $24 a month.

I’ve been on it since January and really like it. The 3-6 day periods are wonderful after the 10-13 day periods I had before and the cramps are so much lighter too. My only problem was that I had a lot of spotting for my first month but haven’t had any since. There wasn’t any weight gain. I have been drinking a lot more water but that may just have to do with the seasons changing/not adapting well.

There also has been noticable change in my mood swings. Before I would cry at the drop of a hat (have to walk up stairs? reason to cry for 15 minutes). Now I may be a bit  more suseptable to sappy movies but no more crying because of some imagined reason.

Even though my copay will jump from 10 to 30 when I get married he says it’s well worth the cost. I don’t think he appreciated my crankiness all that much.

I use to be on it and i loved it! My periods were soooooo light and 3-4 days max. plus it has a low dosage of hormones in it so my hormones didnt go out of wack. I switched bc i got bad about taking the pill, skipped quite a few, and got prego… SO needless to say, I dont take a pill that is easily forgotten anymore lol

I’ve used it for almost a year now. I like it a lot. It was a seamless switch from my previous pill, and my periods are shorter and lighter now. I haven’t got pregnant while on it- so two thumbs up for that.

I am actually going to the doctor next week to get switched off of it.  It makes me extremely emotional to the point where it is detrimental to my relationships.  It was better for my cramps, but wasn’t worth it in the long run.  It seems to be different for each person.

@Edina: I’m in the military, so I don’t pay anything for it. Before I joined the Army, I never had good insurance, and I was paying $30 out of pocket for another brand.

I just have to say I LOVE this pill. I have been on it for over two years. I NEVER get my period on it (well, actually I just got a period last month but that was after over a year of not having one which my doc says is normal). I LOVE NOT HAVING A PERIOD! When I got one last month (and it was more spotting than a period but I had bad cramping) I was like UGH I REMEMBER HOW MUCH PERIODS SUCK! It is the only pill that doesn´t make me psycho emotional depressed (I took yaz at one point and was suicidal….). Anyway Loestrin 24 fe is awesome awesome awesome for me.
