Hello UK bees! I’m an American ex-pat in London and recently became engaged (over Christmas 2011). I’m starting the hunt for a venue in London, but would love advice from any bees who have gotten married here in places you loved. In particular, I want to have the ceremony and reception in the same venue if possible, and would love any words of wisdom from those who have been there, done that.
Thanks in advance!

Oooo ooo oo. This is exciting! SO works in events 🙂
Somewhere my SO has worked is Painshill Park, it’s out of the centre but still inside the M25. It’s a beautiful setting and was designed by an American. http://www.painshillevents.co.uk
Most good hotels will do some sort of package (the Ritz is stunning but I’d also try the Savoy, Grovesnor House Hotel, Hilton etc).
For some unusual ideas:
You can get married in Tower Bridge (http://www.towerbridge.org.uk/TBE/EN/VenueHire/Weddings.htm)
Or on the London Eye (http://www.londoneye.com/SpecialOccasions/Weddings/Default.aspx)At the National Theatre: http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/thedeck
Check out this website (I have their brochure, highly recommended): http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/venues/london/ (link to their venue search)
Going out of the centre will save the pennies, and outside of the M25 even more so.

@ladyartichoke: Thanks so much for the tips! I’ve used squaremeal for restaurant reviews, but never for events, so will definitely check it out. I like the idea of Tower Bridge – how fab!

It depends on your budget. Some areas of London are more expensive than others – Central would be the most expensive whereas the East end or South of the river would probably be a lot cheaper. But of course Central is generally nicer lol.
Also if you’re looking for a venue for September this year (as your date says) I would strongly suggest being as quick as you possibly can because everything gets booked FAST especially Fridays and weekends!
Good luck, London is a great place for a wedding 😀

@jennilana: I think Tower Bridge would be my top choice, so unique and something that no one will forget. June and December are also busy months for central London: that’s when the office parties are 🙂
