Would you be willing to just tell them the color, length, and material, then let them just go out and do the shopping?  It would take the stress off you and the option is getting more and more popular for brides.

This one from Nordstrom appears to meet your requirements: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3016433/0~2376776~2374327~2374331~6014133?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6014133&P=1

A short option that meets your other requirements: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/dresses/weddingsparties/PRDOVR~96454/96454.jsp’ defer=’defer

You could also check eBay like Mrs. Lemonade did and maybe you’ll get lucky with a long J. Crew dress in the color and material you want.  Good luck with your search!

I know Melissa Sweet and Dessy have grey chiffon-y dresses…otherwise, definitely look more into the Watters idea you had!  I’d put a quick call into a shop in your area — some places give discounts for multiple-dress orders.

The bridesmaids dresses for my wedding are also a dark gray. I have ordered a satin dress from Forever Yours. I really like their charcoal color. My friend got married last October and she also had dresses from the Forever Yours collection. She had us in a very pretty chiffon dress. Her Maid/Matron of Honor was 8 months pregnant for the wedding, and the dress still fit her perfectly! I think they ordered extra fabric for her and had it altered. The forever yours collection also offers some different maternity dresses. This might work if you don’t mind your bridesmaids wearing different dresses. I also found them to be pretty reasonably priced. The store that I bought them from even did price matching so I got my dresses for even cheaper. The only problem with the Forever Yours website is that it is extremely difficult to actually see the color swatches. None of them really look right. My advice would be to find a store near you that sells this collection and look at the color swatches in person. Often, a store will have a sample dress in the color you like. Even if it’s not the dress you would pick, you can still see what the color will look like in a full dress.

Here is the link to their website for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses.

Here is the link for the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress I wore in October. Like I said, it looked good on her pregnant Maid/Matron of Honor too!
