I was just reading Miss Hippos post and I was thinking I would love to get input from other long distance brides. I’m planning a wedding from 2206 miles away (i googled it) in Costa Rica. I don’t have anyone on the ground, so I hired a wedding planner. I will also not be making any trips because i really dont have the time/money to fly back and forth.
So how far are you? How are you dealing with the distance?

I did most of my planning for my IN wedding from Los Angeles and the very end of it from Dallas. I took off the three work days between X-mas and New Years last year and used those days back home in IN to have all wedding meetings and appointments I could. Outside of that, my mom was a HUGE help with everything and I had to trust and rely on her for a lot.
And it all come together perfectly!

I live in Canada and am getting married in Mexico this April. 4797 kms or 2980 miles for those of you in the U.S.!!
Our resort assigned me a coordinator and she has been really helpful. I haven’t run into too many obstacles as of yet. The only problem we had was not wanting to do a blood test in Mexico (a marriage requirement there) and having our documents translated from Spanish to English. Because of those two points we have opted to do our legal ceremony in Canada with a Justice of the Peace before we head down for our actual wedding in Mexico. This has actually saved us a lot of headache and a good chunk of cash too!
Other than that everything has been smooth. Our resort offers an online catalogue with hundreds of selections for cakes, decorations, menu, flower arrangements etc. As long as you are willing to put in a little extra work you can accomplish anything and find anything. A good tip I was given was to visit the Trip Advisor website to find out info about weddings in the city you are travelling too and they also have some vendors with reviews listed.
Good luck planning 🙂

@mrs.peters.to.be: I totally forgot about that… we are definitely considering doing the legal stuff before the wedding. We are planning on visiting Paris for our 4 year anniversary which woule be our last anniversary before it changes…UNLESS we get married in Paris! But it looks like it’s pretty hard to get married in Paris 🙁 We’ll see… We may move our vacation to someone easier where we could get hitched
