Hello there lovelies! I’m new here, and wanted to get your thought on my situation.
My boyfriend (m/27) of over four years and I (f/23) met on the internet, and dated for two years before we actually got to meet in person. Since then we’ve visited each other plenty of times, and have lived together for about four months. Unfortunately, he lives in the Mid-West and I’m stuck in the middle of Europe.
We’ve been discussing the option of marriage for quite some time now, and making plans, and it’s really happening – I’m so excited!!! I’m ready to live my life WITH him, rather than having to keep catching him up on what’s happening via facetime / skype every night. Since neither of us are very financially stable at the moment (I graduated from college and am still looking for a solid job, and he dropped out of college but is looking into taking more courses while he works full time), our parents have agreed to back us up financially just enough so that we don’t end up homeless. We’re both very grateful for this.
Now, here comes the interesting part. We picked out a ring, he has it, it’s lovely – all is swell. We thought that since our relationship has had such unusual circumstances, it would be kind of charming to do a long distance proposal. This would mean that he’s going to send the ring and plan out a proposal via facetime (or with props he sends, i really don’t have any idea how he’ll do it) and i would have the ring on my finger. He’s planning a visit here in Feb-March of next year, and whie we could leave the proposal until then, we would like to get started on the visa applications sooner.
What do you guys think about long distance proposals? I’m very excited to be getting engaged, and I’m hoping that straying away from “traditional” will still hold its own aura of magic.
