    Personally, I think anything over one year is long. A proposal and engagement signifies the couple is ready to take the next step: marriage. The engagement period should be a time to secure wedding details, financial details, etc. Anything over one year and I start to wonder why they got engaged so soon if they weren’t ready to be married yet. That’s just my opinion, though.

    Fiance and I are having a 1 1/2-2 year engagement too and in my mind that seems long! Maybe because I am impatient and want everything now! We were only together for a year before getting engaged so that’s why we are waiting a bit longer. And money. We figured we’d rather put it towards a house first rather than wedding.

    My 18-month engagement seemed very long to me. So I voted 1-2 years.
