The makeup artist at Sephora put me in Cover FX Total Coverage Cream Foundation because I told him I had really sensitive skin. The color matches my skin really nicely, but it makes my skin look flaky/clumps in weird places! I was told that is because i need to exfoliate more often and then the problem will go away, and while I’ll give that a try, I’m a little skeptical since I don’t always have this problem with makeup!
So, please help me out! Ladies with sensitive skin, what foundation (and primer and setting powder) do you use? And if you use Cover FX, do you use anything else with it?

I have really sensitive skin. I use Bare Essentials Mineral foundation, with nothing under it but a clean dry face.

I have really sensitive skin so I know exactly what you mean.
I moisturise with Nivea Face Cream
Primer – Bare Minerals (the only one so far that hasn’t reacted to my skin)
Foundation – Clinique Repairwear Anti Aging. This goes on beautifully and has a full coverage but doesn’t look too “mask like” it also has a dewy look to it and again is the only foundation I’ve found so far that doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I have yet to see it clump or look dry on my skin. It just has such a gorgeous natural finish in my opinion.
Powder – Clinique Blended Powder. It doesn’t cake or look powdery.
Hope that’s some help. Having sensitive skin is so annoying as anything can set it off at any time!! ARGHH.

Thank you, thank you!!!!
@skyeatnight: have you heard anything about bare minerals causing cystic acne? I asked about using that and was told they didn’t want to risk it since some people are allergic to an ingredient in bare minerals.

I have sensitive skin and can NEVER use Clinique products, I’d love to because my bestie works for Clinique, but alas, my skin burns and blisters when I use ANY of their skin and make up products.
@huckleberry783 Ask for samples, and explain why you need them then try a test area with the product and where it for a few hours. I usually know when I’m allergic in about .23 seconds but everyone’s different 🙂 Sephora is usually good with samples when I explain why. Oh and I use Marcelle Creme Foundation (but you might only be able to buy that in Canada, I’ve never seen it in the States)….

Try Bare Essentials! My skin used to get so flaky no matter what kind of foundation I used, and they all made me break out too. I hated wearing foundation because I just felt like my skin couldn’t “breathe.” I decided to try Bare Essentials, and it is amazing!! It covers better than any foundation I’ve ever used, makes your skin glow, and best of all…no flaky skin and no breakouts! I can never go back to drugstore brands again…not so good for my pocketbook but great for my face!

@huckleberry783: Unfortunately bare minerals doesn’t work on my dry very sensitive skin and tends to bring me out in spots and blemishes (some of which have taken a while to clear up) so I have to stay clear 🙁 I’ve always heard it doesn’t photgraph well but I haven’t tried this for myself. Can look a little too cakey and powdery.
I have been using Clinique for about a year after trying EVERY makeup combination on the planet and it’s the only product that works for me. I have VERY sensitive skin and the slightest irritating product will bring it out immediately.
You could always ask for testers of things just to be on the safe side. They don’t cost the earth and you haven’t wasted tons of money on something that won’t work. Always worth a go!

I’ve had really good luck with Lorac Natural Performance foundation. It’s made specifically for sensitive skin – no parabens, synthetics, dyes, fragrances, etc. – and it lasts all day, even on my oily, sensitive, acne-prone skin. Even if I didn’t have sensitive skin, I’d still wear this! Good luck!
