Definitely worth checking out. I have incredibly long cycles and it was caused by PCOS, insulin resistance and a hormonal imbalance. If you’ve been tracking it for some time now after giving up BC and they’re still not <30 days, I’d ask a few questions. Some people just have longer cycles than others – but it’s better safe than sorry, and if there IS something that needs monitoring, you have time to fix it before you’re TTC.

(This is coming from me, whose average cycle length used to be 100+ days!) It’s currently averaging out to 47 days, so still not great.

@anonmidwest:

How long were your cycles typically prior to going off BC?

My cycles have always been on the longer side, averaging about 36 days which roughs out to 5 weeks. Occasionally they do go to 6 weeks. Just how my body is.

Not saying you do or do not have issues just saying it could be normal as well.

GL!

I always had longer cycles… we thought they were irregular but weren’t, just 36/38 days. I was told it wasn’t anything to worry about at all since they were regular…. just regularly longer. lol

Mine are all over the place, sometimes up to 100 days, sometimes 45, but usually closer to the 45 day mark. I’m thin and don’t have any of the “obvious” signs of PCOS besides a long cycle, but I finally found out after an ultra-sound revealed that the way my ovaries look indicates I do have it, that it is sometimes a possibility for people who don’t seem to display the regular symptoms. Luckily, I didn’t need to treat it to get pregnant, because I found out 5 days after that ultra sound that I already was! Charting helped me figure out when exactly to try, even though I had fewer chances due to my long cycles, and I got pregnant on my second cycle of charting. I think if your cycle is over 30something days, your dr. will probably want to check it out. Also, check your thyroid, that can make a difference, too. Good luck!
