Heather did mine, and they totally captured us.  Not like a photocopy, but she got all of our details and captured our personalities with her unique style better than a photo could have.  She created a custom scene for us as well and did our pets.  The total w/ all of that was about $300, but just a couple of people would be less.  It’s a sculpture, IMO, that I will display for a long time after it sits on the cake.

If she wants to pay for them then why not? They would make an amazing topper, and when the wedding it done it’s something for the two of you to cherish forever. It doubles as a gift!

@elliestan: Here’s a pic of the one she did for us.  Our outfits, kitties, facial expressions, are spot on.  I had one done of my MOH’s family too (not in wedding clothes) as her gift.  The basic bride and groom was $150.  Heather was the nicest vendor that I dealt with throughout the process.  I hope her business thrives.

Do you have your heart set on it being an exact look alike?  I was able to purchase a vintage topper on ebay for about $50 shipped.  It didn’t look exactly like us but it was really cute and the vintage style worked for my wedding.  I started with all the etsy folks and decided it was just too much money for such a small detail.  Check local antique stores as well if you like this idea as I saw some there that I liked too.

I DIY my own cake toppers. Those wooden peg ones you spoke about.

It was a trip making it since I am not an artist, and its not perfect but I love it and I feel like it’ll be a great keepsake.
