Last month I got it in my head that I wanted Adirondack chairs for our back patio. We looked at the pre-made ones at stores such as Lowe’s and Home Depot but Darling Husband thought they looked too flimsy – so we decided to make them ourselves!
This took all weekend. The most time consuming part was painting. We did one coat of primer and two coats of paint on all the pieces before we assembled them. Oh, we also made a table to go with them.

@SuperKate: How awesome! Did you also save money? At least in my area the wooden ones are quite expensive!
My neighbor has colorful plastic ones that look cool but when we have any amount of wind they blow all over his yard!

@mchitt329: With lumber, paint and other materials we probably spent about $175. So probably about on par with what two would have cost. But at least with these we know they are extra sturdy. We used bolts that are usually used on decks for the legs so we know they’re going to hold up.

@Mrs.KMM: Darling Husband uses plans from Ana White quite a bit, she has a website and book that includes all kinds of things. Here are the plans we used.

@SuperKate: These look amazing!! Where did you get the pattern from to do the cut outs for each slab of wood?
