I am not married yet but I will be skipping the dessert/candy buffet.  I wanted this so bad and I am sure people would eat the table dry but its too costly, even if it is DIY.  I am not using real flowers for bouquets, i’ll order a real touch from ETSY.  We are skipping the groom/groomsmen boutonnieres.  No save-the-dates. No photobooth.  I wanted a professional videographer but might just let a family member use my moms personal camcorder. I also am only getting a small two tier cake (for cutting and photos) and the rest will be cupcakes. Since its winter my favors will be hot chocolate w/marshmallows (idea from a google search). No extreme decorating of guest tables (they will have napkins, menus, favors, centerpieces, and candy dishes)…only the main table will be totally outfitted.  I did recently purchase colored napkins for every guest placement on sale for about $.42 each.  Got centerpieces from Hobby Lobby but a co-worker just gave me some open ended hurricane vases for free to use, so I don’t know whether I can return the centerpieces I purchased back b/c its been a few months. Lord knows my cheap self wants to return them.

Things that are necessary for me are: a great venue, great photographer, great DJ, and great caterer all for a good price and comparable to other vendors in the area.  These are my main focus and hopefully the little stuff will fall into place.

The officiant!  Dh hired him and who woulda thunk to ask if he allowed music?!  He didn’t allow music before, during or after the ceremony.

Naturally, I was all kinds of shocked and disoriented coming down the aisle to the sound of nothing rather than Canon in D.

I wish Dh would have been more assertive and overruled this turkey.  It’s a really bad wedding memory for me.

Moral of the story:  choose your officiant carefully.

@LadyElva:  “DJ/Band – We just set up an iPod and that worked beautifully. People loved the music, or they got up and changed the song – it made things feel more relaxed and like a regular party, which was just what we wanted.”

I love reading this 🙂 We are renting a sound system with mixers and plan to connect my laptop to it with all the music. We couldn’t afford a DJ, but we still wanted to dance, and give others the option to dance. I hope ours goes as smoothly!

@sassy411:  Whoa! Did you get married in a religious space? Otherwise I am wracking my brain to figure out why your officiant would have imposed that rule!

@TaurianDoll:  who are you going with? I’m having one too and having them use one of the strips for my guest book when they sign . I’m debating between charm city and boothlove.

@LadyElva:  Thank you! This is very useful information. I think I’m on the same boat as you when it comes to things like no veil, DIY bouquets & decorations, an iPod instead of DJ/Band. I definitely agree on NOT skimping on the food!
