Have you tried looking at evening gowns or cocktail dresses?

@November2013: I feel the same, I look at the traditional dresses and they just don’t work for me. Haven’t found my dress yet, but I love looking for one at these two sites:

Perhaps you can find something that suites you better there?

@November2013:  Have you heard of renttherunway.com? If they had what I am looking for I would definitely be renting my dress. I haven’t used them but I have heard alot of good things about it.

I wore a gorgeous Aidan Mattox gown for my wedding (from Saks Fifth Avenue) and loved it! I too did not want the traditional bridal look- my style just does not suit big poofy ball gowns and I didn’t want the normal strapless look.

I too suggest Bhldn! Also try the evening/formal gown sections of all the traditional department stores – Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, etc.

These are pretty! :

Best of luck; you will find something perfect!

I was also going to suggest BHLDN, or Dolly Couture if you’re into vintage at all.

Yay, another Aussie bride! Have you looked at Rachel Gilbert? She has some amazingly glamorous dresses, and some of them are bridal-without-being-too-bridal. Most are on sale right now too:

Maybe have a look at Carla Zampatti too (I’m wearing her Petal gown as an engagement dress, she also has a full bridal collection which is very modern and chic and not at all meringue-like). I think a lot of Aussie designers excel at doing relaxed glamour – I think a lot of gowns from Willow, Camilla & Marc and Lover (especially their lace dresses) would be suitable for a wedding.

@lstyle25:  I literally said “OH DAMN” at my computer out loud. That dress is incredible! Like “gave me a moment of doubt about my dress” incredible.
