Hey ladies, unfortunately I don’t think the venue my fiancé wants is going to work. We really fell in love with Deity but after all the gratuity and taxes it would cost over $9,000 and although they give you a lot for the price. I basically won’t have any budget for a photographer, decor, or even my dress. I really don’t know what to do. This is my second time planning this wedding, I lost about $6,000 last year because my brother passed away unexpectedly a month before my wedding. I couldn’t even get any of my deposits back. I had no choice but to cancel because of funeral expenses. Moving out into a bigger place, and we just had a baby in March, not to mention my fiancé’s mother passed away last month. We have so many expenses. I really thought that this $10,000 we saved could work but I keep hitting a dead end. If anyone has any ideas for affordable venues for an intimate wedding please let me know.

Where are you guys getting married? It’d probably help for us to move this thread to your local board!

@Gemstone: we are in New York. I live in Queens but my fiancé and I have been looking at venues in Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island.

@Sunshine1985: Hi there. I am SO sorry to hear about the passing of your Brother and your fiance’s Mother during what should be the happiest time in your life. I am planning a Fall 2014 wedding, and am looking for inexpensive venues in Queens and Brooklyn as well. We live in Queens also. It is my fiance’s 2nd wedding, and we are older and will be trying to buy a place and have a baby very shortly after our wedding, so we are trying to keep costs down as much as possible as well. One of the cheapest places I’ve found that is also very quaint and nice is the Queens County Farm Museum. You do need to bring everything in from outside, but I have found a few very reasonable and affordable caterers that also provide staff, chairs, linens etc. Check it out. How many people are you looking to have? That’s the biggest thing you didn’t mention. I’m happy to share anything I’ve found so far, but I’ve just gotten started. I do have pricing from a few good places in Queens and Brooklyn already. Fancy Girl Table has given me very good pricing for doing outside catering. Let me know how many people you were looking to have, and I’ll share what I’ve found so far that would fit your guests.

Sorry to hear about whats happened 🙁
whats your guest list size?
Im in in New York and gave up the idea of having a wedding in a “wedding” venue, 1. It never was something I want and 2. I dont want to spend what it costs new yorkers to have an average wedding here. 50k? or so…
So we cut the guestlist to 50 and are having a private restaurant ceremony/reception. All under 10k during the day.
Can you do that?

I would look into Frankie Spuntinos in Carroll Gardens. It’s a beautiful space. You can google a lot of wedding photos

Theres also ICI brooklyn, Mykitchen forest hills, DEES forest hills, Mables Smokehouse Brooklyn, but all those above might still be too much unless you choose daytime.

@daniellis: thank you so much, I really appreciate it the guest is 70 guests. I also found a venue in Astoria it’s called Bruno’s on the Blvd. they’ve given me a really good price if I have my wedding on a Friday evening vs. a Saturday evening. I like the venue but it is an old fashion banquet hall. Now I’m trying to look into linens and centerpieces. Planning a wedding is hard lol

@Sunshine1985: NO problem! You are very welcome. I will put together a list with all the info I’ve gotten and type it up for you over the next few days. I’ve got emails from places in a few different inboxes that I need to sort through. 🙂 Mymoon restaurant in Williamsburg is a great option to look into, and ReBar in Brooklyn. They have smaller rooms and bigger room, so you could go with the smaller. I have to look through and see what places had good rooms for smaller groups. I’m goind around 100-120 I think so I’m not too far off that range. 🙂

SO sorry to hear about your losses. But congrats on the baby!
I wouldn’t go for rebar because I wouldn’t have my wedding in a bar, ya know? I wouldn’t care how cheap they do it. But from what I’ve seen MyMoon looks delightful!

@Dina2013: Rebar is not just a bar. Its a restaurant and event space. And I dont think they are that budget friendly anymore. The website says $159 a person 100 min off peak.

- Wedding: September 2013 - Old Stone House in Brookyn
We are having a tented wedding in Washington Park in Park Slope which has a very low rental fee and has no vendor restrictions. Our biggest expense is renting the tent, but it still works out to be lower than renting a traditional event space.
Are you inviting 70 or inviting more and expecting 70? Frankie’s Spuntino is really cute but I think it would be better for around 50 guests because it is a small place. Another restaurant we looked at and really liked was Aurora.
If you are open to Friday, Sunday or Saturday brunch you can get a good deal on restaurant receptions.

I recently got pricing for both reBar and MyMoon. Both are a good penny.
reBar, 2014 wedding package, covers 100 guests. from Sunday off peak $15,999 to Saturday evening $22,999 peak.
MyMoon, 2014 wedding package that covers up to 120 guests = $21,600.00 plus tax and 20% service fees. $180p/p for each additional guest over 120 guests.

@sunshine1985 So sorry for your losses. I would suggest having your ceremony in Brooklyn Bridge Park ($25 permit) and then heading to a local restaurant for a 70 person catered brunch. Check out Pane E Vino Restaurant. it’s in Brooklyn and it’s really picturesque.
But, really for under 10k you would probably need to try to cut your list to 50 people and think about having your wedding on a Friday afternoon in an offseason month (not in late spring-early fall). All of your vendors will work to accomodate you because they most likely won’t be booked.
