So here we are…beginning the long journey that will enevitably become our wedding. I have said it many times and I will say it again. I will not let this wedding planning business stress me out…or so I thought.
We were doing so well. The fiance and I made a guest list with absolutely no problem. However, finding a venue has been a nightmare. We decided that we would like to have the wedding close to our home town which is where a large portion of our family both live. But the town is rather small and there really aren’t any “venues” near by. Note, that when I say venue, we are very open to what that can mean. We are not looking for a huge banquet hall, bedazzled with the works. We have decided that is just not for us. We want something simple, maybe a little rustic, and (if I dare say it) something on the more casual side. It may not be for everyone but it is us…and that is what matters after all. And last but not least, WE MUST STICK TO OUR BUDGET. Which I think has been the most difficult part.
Anyways, I am stressed and need some help. I have scoured the web, asked every married person I know, and done everything short of walking up to complete strangers and asking if they know of an event space that we could use….That’s where you all come in 🙂
We are looking for a space that will hold approximately 70- 80 people. It can be indoors or outdoors (I prefer inside because the thought of rain scares me a bit). Our home town is Commerce, GA. We would prefer nothing more than about 45 minutes away. And here is the hard part, it must stay under $600 for renting the facilities.
Here are a couple options that I have come across so far. I am hoping that you all can add to the list.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We chose Forsyth Park in Savannah. It’s $256 to rent and $120 cash the day of to the police officer you must have…he makes sure there are no strangers just watching you get married or interrupting anything. It’s city rule to have one.
We are getting married right in front of the gorgeous fountain. You will have to rent chairs but the place we looked at are about $4/seat.

@Kat9344: Hi! I’m originally from Lawrenceville, so I hope I can help you out!
Are you willing to get married on a Friday or Sunday? If so, the Lawrenceville historic courthouse charges $170 per hour for a 4 hour minimum.
Check it out here: http://www.gwinnettcounty.com/static/departments/parks_rec/pdf/Wedding_rental_rates_04_13_12.pdf

@Kat9344: This farm (also in Lawrenceville) gives you the venue AND food/soft drinks/tables/chairs/DJ for 8 hours/clean up crew, for up to 75 people for $3000. Quite a steal if you ask me! I’m sure you can add more people onto the package if you need to, for an extra cost. I think it does a good job of meeting the casual/rustic/laid back feel, especially since the food offered is BBQ themed 🙂

@Kat9344: One more: What about Fort Yargo State Park in Winder? 40 minute drive from you, and I think it’s supposed to be quite cheap since it’s a state park! Looks pretty!

Thanks for the all the great suggestions! I had considered Fort Yargo State Park before, but some how it didn’t make the list. I will have to give it a second look. The fiance and I actually went to the Double Oaks Golf Club that I posted in the link above, and it far exceeded our expectations. We are still going to look at a few more places, but I would not hesitate to say that I think Double Oaks is going to be the perfect place. I am absolutely in love with it! It is nice with a little bit of rustic charm, the owner was very accomodating, and on the plus side its only a 10 minute drive from the parents’ houses. It comes in budget at right around $500. I’m really excited!
