Hmm… to be honest, I’ve never gone to one before, so I’m not sure I’ll be much help!

But I would personally, LOVE to go to a themed ball.  I don’t know if that’s considered appropriate for a black tie event (I’m not a huge etiquette expert), but wouldn’t it be fun to have a vintage or WWI era themed black tie event?  With jazz music/live band, encourage people to dress/do their hair like the era, have foods or beverages common back then, find flags from that era… etc

You could also do all the invites typewritten and do a postcard/telegram themed game of some kind…

 

I don’t know if that’s even something appropriate or something that’s done because I’ve never been to one, but it sounds like a fun time to me!!

I was supposed to go to a ball w/ Darling Husband when he was still active duty, but we bailed on that…We were LDR at the time and didn’t feel like spending time with a ton of other people.  I’m going to one next month and that will officially be my first beings I slacked off on the others (DH is in the National Guard now).

I’m not sure as to how they are organized.  I always thought they were organized on a brigade or company level.

Typically, military balls are organized on the battalion/brigade level.  Your best bet would be to contact your FI/husband’s battalion commander (or his wife, if he is married), and pitch your idea to him/her! 

Also, if it is to be an official AF ball, you will have to have brigade/battalion permission to plan such an event.
