Hi all! I just got engaged on Friday! And though the wedding planning hasn’t officially begun yet, I did want to start looking into DJs to begin my research.
Can anyone recommend a really amazing DJ who can play really awesome Latin music AND really great american/hip hop/top 40? If they can travel, then location doesn’t matter – I’d be willing to hire anyone anywhere, as long as they are THE BEST.
I’m Latina (family from Colombia) and I’m also a dancer and very particular about music and throwing amazing parties. My fiance is american (from the South), and together we have LOTS of friends and family all over the world. My biggest priority for our wedding, beyond ANYTHING else, is the dance party. I’m more concerned about this than the venue, the dress, photographer, food, or anything else. I’ve been to many weddings and only one has really stood out to me as a great party with a great dj, but they were in Florida and my wedding will likely be in California (near the Bay Area). My vision for this party/DJ is: really amazing taste in music, seamless integration of different songs and beats and genres, a strong ability to read the crowd, experience throwing parties for latinos AND americans and combining both cultures, and most importantly – the ability to keep people dancing and partying until the wee hours of the morning.
Its a tall order. I’m picky and not just any DJ will do. This needs to be someone who could theoretically throw a party at a major club for really selective clients from all over the world. They should hopefully be Latino, like me, maybe raised in the US, so they really understand both cultures deeply. If you’ve ever been to Bogota, Colombia – I’m looking for someone who could play at Andres Carne De Res (THE most important party place in the country) while also meeting the needs of the many, many americans in attendance at our future wedding. They should know better than to play any of those awful wedding songs (“Shout”, “We are Family”, etc) and they should be able to transition between latin (reggaeton, salsa, cumbia, merengue — but only the good songs that people know and can sing along to), to top 40, to electronic, and back and forth, keeping the party alive all night.
I want my wedding to be the best party anyone has ever been to. This is my only requirement, and it all comes down to the DJ. So, if you know this person or have ideas of where I could find them, let me know! I think our wedding will be near the Bay Area region in California, but if the DJ you know of is elsewhere, please share as well — I’d be willing to pay for their travel if they’re that good.
