- Wedding: August 2010
okay so my Fiance is Chinese. I thought it would be cool to wear a Chinese dress for our rehearsal dinner (at Chinese restraurant). Since we are having a Jewish wedding, i thought this would be a nice gesture and a way to include more of his culture. When i mentioned this to his mom, i didn’t get the best reaction and now i feel a little deflated. i had visited a place in NYC and was all ready to do something custom but now i feel unsure (it wasn’t expensive, but would take more effort to get back and forth to NYC etc).
i’m not sure why the reaction – any thoughts on this? is this weird to do this? insulting? offensive? she said i definitely can’t wear red dragon/phoenix cause that is only for the actual wedding day (which is fine).
I decided not to do it. But now i’m having 2nd thoughts again because i know Fiance got all excited about it when i first mentioned. What i am looking for is a dress that is NOT the tight fitted kind – more of an A-line b/c i have curves and i just can’t imagine the straight dress would be flattering at all. they had a selection of A-line types in NYC but was trying to avoid the custom route and find something on the internet. any suggestions for websites that might have more variety of types of dresses that are still made out of the nice brocade-ish fabric? any idea what this style of dress might be called? any suggestions would be appreciated.
