- Wedding: June 2012
Hi I’m not sure if this is where to post this but I don’t have very many female friends and my mum seems to have no interest or only negative things to say about my wedding plans so I’m wondering what others think of my plan.
Dominic and I don’t live in the same country, (i’m Canadian and he’s American) but I intend to legally marry and enter the country after our wedding but doing so I will have to marry him than leave for 8 -12 months while our paperwork goes threw immigration.
That being said I’m thinking rather than wait a year for the engagement and plan a big to do just having a small private ceremony in Vegas and later have a reception later.
I do still want a pretty gown and all the rest but were on a tiny budget ($7000 to be exate) I figured out that I want to fly to vegas for a long weekend with him sometime in may and than return to Fort Bliss, Tx (where he’s currently stationed) for a week so we could do the paperwork for the army and than I would return home to Toronto, Canada. The travel alone is eating up about $2200 of our budget and the immigration paperwork works out to be about $1500. So that only leaves me with 3300 for food for a week and a half dress rings and ceremony. (Yes I don’t even have my engagement ring yet due to a pay mix up).
The ring I like is about 800 and the ring he wants for himself is about 300. but there is also a $400 ring i like
I also plan on doing some in store dress shopping but have found a dress I love on ebay but I’m sooo scared it wont look nice. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/White-Bridal-Wedding-Dresses-Gown-Custom-plus-size-0-36-/230466318922?pt=UK_Wedding_Clothing&var=&hash=item7b66c7b39b but I have heard very good things about this seller.
The ceremony is going to cost me about $525 all toll with the ceremony being an outdoor garden ceremony at night at (which includes some photos and dvd of the ceremony) and the $400 hair makeup and first look package that picks me up privately and has professionals do my hair and make up. http://www.vivalasvegasweddings.com/lasvegas-garden-chapel-wedding-nighttime.htm
I would return to Toronto for the inevitable long wait to return. in July or August whenever Dominic could get leave for a week he’d come up to Toronto and I was thinking of having a backyard informal reception where we watch the dvd of the wedding and have some hor’durves and light food with close family and friends(maybe 40 people). And give everyone a chance to met Dominic. (Im not including this in the wedding budget because I am an event planner and could do it under a few hundred dollars if i pull in some favors)
I’m just looking for some feedback am i overlooking something or a major expense. Does it sound like a good idea Dominic loves anything I suggest so he’s not much help.
