@sfpharmie:  We’re using DJ Curtis (http://www.4djcurtis.com/) who came as a recommendation by a friend.

For 6 hours of music (5 pm to 11 pm) – that covers guests arriving, ceremony music, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing – cost is $1200.  And he brings dance floor lights.  He’s actually the most reasonably priced DJ we looked/talked to.

And we liked his personality (over the phone) the best.

@sfpharmie:  I’ve been shopping, too, and found a number of DJs on Craigslist. The two on my short list are well under $1000  I don’t know if they have lights, fog, etc but I don’t want those, anyway.

One is Bobby Carias, who goes by DJ B. 916-912-8951. That’s a Sacramento number but he goes all over the Bay Area.

The other is Harrison Sanchez. 888-811-2735. He is in the Sacto area, too, but goes all over the bay area.

They each have many good references. It will be hard for me to decide! If you contact them, please say that Shawn referred you.

Good luck – and congratulations!

4 hours for $1000? Isn’t that kind of high? I’m on a tight budget as well!

@Shawno:   I have to remove my recommendation for Bobby Carias, who turned out to be a very bad choice. He missed several scheduled phone appointments. When he missed one he had confirmed three weeks prior to our wedding we decided he was not reliable and found another DJ.

We asked for our deposit back. He refused, and was pretty nasty about it.

There is a possibility — just a possibility — Bobby Carias is worse than disorganized. The red flags: no address on his contract, nor on his new website; changing phone numbers without telling clients, and changing his DJ name back and forth.

There is also a possibility he is simply a poor business person. He never acknowledged missing appointments, which was strange considiering he would have the text he sent right on his phone. Based on his comments, he was also mixing us up with someone else.

At any rate, do not use DJ B, Bobby Carias, for your DJ.

Our rescuer and DJ was Court Helms, who did an absolutely awesome job. I would be happy to put you in touch.

I know this is way late, but you might want to check out entfusion (http://www.entfusion.com).  It’s a new site, but they’ve got several dj’s (amongst other vendors) on there.  I like it a lot better than craigslist, it’s much more personal.  I found a good DJ and photographer for myself on there!

I am also looking for a DJ for my wedding in Sonoma, but I’m wanting more class, less club.  It’s hard to tell someone’s style from their website, but it does scare me when some websites talk about “bringing the club to you”.  If anyone has a recommendations for a good DJ who will play country/oldies/motown and some top 40, please let me know!

Thanks Bees!

@beachykeen:  Without knowing more about you, one DJ who sent us a quote through Gigmaster might work for you: DJ Ronn.

He scammed friends of mine. Read his reviews… or other reviews before hiring.
