- Wedding: September 2013
You guys have all made some really excellent points! I agree that now is a good time to learn to brush off comments, or else wedding planning will be a nightmare!
I think the comment stuck with me because I do feel like it’s a bit bigger than I’d like. If I had tried on more rings I probably would have asked for the 6mm (1.1ct) version. I tried on just one ring, a smaller diamond in a setting similar to my moissy, to find out what my ring size was. The smaller diamond (think it was .75ct) looked quite small on my frame, so we decided on the 6.5mm moissy, not seeing it in person first.
Anyway, I’m heeding everyone’s advice to take some time to get used to it and just smile and say “thanks!” if somebody makes a comment.
Congratulations and welcome to the Hive!
I struggled with the same sort of thing. I have a 1.5ct-equivalent moissanite e-ring and I’ve had some “huge” comments. I’m pretty sure nobody would want to be mean (at least not to my face), so I can only assume it’s meant as a compliment rather than a slight. I worry about travelling back to England this summer to see friends and family, though, because the stone sizes there tend to be smaller than in North America, and I can see my ring sticking out like a sore thumb, attracting attention and inquisition, which I realllly don’t like. For this reason, I sometimes wonder if I should have gone smaller, but to be honest if I ignore everyone else around us, my fiance and I are are really happy with the ring. It makes me so happy looking at it (and I am the one that has to do that every day). And another PP is right: you get so used to the size that a conflicting part of you will wonder if you should actually have gone bigger!
Love your ring because you’re the ones who chose it (and of course what it means)! But definitely it’s super beautiful! Congrats again!
ETA: I’d also not tried on a stone in that size until the moment I got my ring. I was shocked by how big it was! Wondered if I should have gone with 1ct-1.25ct maybe, but then no doubt I’d have wanted to go bigger at some point, and the beauty of moissanite is that your dream size is pretty much accessible, so why not!
It’s beautiful!! don’t feel self conscious! rock that bling!! 🙂
It’s beautiful and I think it is the PERFECT size on your finger!
Looks like a nice size to me. People say “huge” as a compliment. I had someone ask me how I hold my hand up with a 3.5 carat sapphire. But my hand stays up just fine and I think it looks nice on my finger. So just enjoy the ring you and he chose. Don’t let little comments change anything. Lovely ring! Enjoy it.
This is the ring I’m getting, and I have a size 5.5/6 finger, too. Don’t feel bad about it – it’s gorgeous!
I’m in the same boat, I have a 1.5 round moissy and have gotten a couple of snarky comments from my office manager. Other than that it’s all been very positive, plus its nice to know the Bee is here when that sort of thing happens! Don’t forget, rings are just sparkly things that represent the love someone has for you–anyone who has something negative to say about the symbol that was chosen to represent that love probably doesn’t have anything better going on anyway.
It’s big, but tastefully big. You’ve got a gorgeous ring. Don’t worry about it; with rings, someone will always say something.
