I am a DC bride planning a wedding in my Fiance’s home town of New Orleans. I am trying to have a mixed vendor set, but most of the people I am running into are of the same flavor.
I’m posting this hoping some other marriage minded person on the board might be able to recommend any vendors for me? I would appreciate any African American or other minority recommendations, but really, any recommendations are good. In specific we are looking for a caterer, a wedding coordinator, hair and make-up, etc – really everything except venues.
Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help!

I live in DC, but I’m from NOLA and thinking about a NOLA wedding. I’d be more than happy to help you. What price ranges are you looking for for these vendors?

I’m in New Orleans as well. I booked Brandy Gomez-Duplessis of BGD Make-up Artistry. She is not the fastest respondent but I think that is due to the fact that she (1) works in NY sometimes and (2) her line of work is not limited to the bridal industry.
Anyways, this make-up artist (Afr Amer vendor) was recommended to me. She can do anything from “natural” to “high fashion”. Her prices aren’t bad either.
Check out her website – http://www.bgdmakeupartistry.com
Good luck 🙂

@AltarEgo: We thought we had a generious budget, but we blew past most of it with our venues so we are trying to stay on the lower end for catering and would be okay with 50-60 range, and extatic with anything below (prices per person, including tax but not gratuity or alchol). For DOC, the lowest I’ve seen is $750, so something around that or lower. A cantorist and an organist for under 300… that’s our basic budget nitch, I guess, except we are willing to pay premium for photographer and cake. Thanks in advance!
@2shy2Bbf: Thanks for the recomendation! I am looking at her website now and her work looks pretty impressive. I plan to call her for an apointment when we’re in town this Februery. Good luck with your wedding, too!

Thanks for the referal to for Brandy, again. I contacted her and she refered me to a wedding co-ordinator Heahter (http://simplyjubilee.com/index2.php?v=v1). Unfortunently, she is booked for my date 🙁 but I am including her info here in case someone ever pulls this post up in the future.

if you want a jazz band i can pull up my old list. do you have a photog or cake? i’m not AA so i can’t recommend hair or makeup, but i’ve done plenty of research on everything else! my venue includes catering and doc though, so i haven’t looked for that either.

oh, also, she recommended a minority or African American photographer in New Orleans: berniesaul.photoreflect.com

I had the same dilemma. I am from Los Angeles and my FH is from New Orleans. At first I wanted to have the wedding out there, but it became such a pain in the butt sourcing vendors and venues because I wasn’t there to view anything. Needless to say, I ended up planning the wedding in L.A.
I am however, incorporating New Orleans flair. I just found a second-line band in L.A. *yay* I’m ordering the parasols from a vendor on Esty, and the invitations, cake, and other stationary will bare the fleur di lis.
