I forgot to put the dress company name on my post-the link to my dress is to mine in particular, but it’s a slide show of Aurora D’ Paradiso (the line that cinemaparadiso mentioned. Excellent quality of a dress, my seamstress commented how well it was put together, but complained about the zipper-she said its one of those typical wedding dress zippers, but not something she would have put in her own dress and she doesn’t understand why they continue to do that when they make wedding dresses. I did have to have my seamstress add some fabric to the front of my dress because I didn’t have “church cleavage”, I definitely had some “porn cleavage” going on!

ladies You have given me hope. Unfortuanately I was one of the not so happy Davids Bridal Brides. I went to Davids and they only had 10 dresses my size im only a 20/22. I am pretty picky actually I want a sweetheart neckline lace dress that does not have the crazy big boufant at the hips. I want it to be straight down with an aline flare toward the bottom. So far I have not been able to try on any plus sizes dress with lace. Not lace jackets or lace at the top. LOL maybe I want to much. But you ladies have given me hope to revive my search! Thank you.

Thanks for posting your story… I am about the same size as you and I am having huge anxiety about the whole experience. Bridal shops that I have stopped by only have dresses up to 16 and that won’t help me. One consultant said she would put me in the size 16 dress and see from there… I don’t even want to try that. I just can’t imagine “stuffing myself” into a size 16
I am calling around to different shops ( up to 2 hours away) and seeing what sizes they have that I could try on and go from there.. Wish me luck !

At Davids I’m a 20.. but my Lazaro gown I bought is actually a 26 and I usually wear 18/20 pants and 14/16 tops (Although I am a 40DDD) so believe me I completely understand you’re fears.

I’m glad you had a good experience! I think the bridal industry is much too geared towards a certain “average” body type, and any time you’re on the far end of one spectrum, it makes it really difficult to find a dress, especially without costly alterations. I’m exactly 5′, so a lot of the styles couldn’t even be modified well for my height, and the samples were so far from my size that it’s really hard to get a good idea of what they actually would look like. It seems like so many brides have this issue of being too tall/short or curvy/petite for the dresses they stock… I think trying on dresses is terrifying for almost everyone! So it’s always good to hear stories like yours. 🙂

Thanks for posting your stories. I go in to DB on the 25th of March and I’m dreading it. I’ll have to make sure to take a camera and some super tight undergarments to pull my fluff in a bit.

I originally bought the Davids bridal 9V9743 in a 20W which I have sitting in my closet.. but I saw the Lazaro gown and decided to buy that as well because it was more me. I may be selling the davids gown with the veil for $550 total so if thats something you like and your interested in let me know.

Thanks so much for this post. I am in tears reading this. I haven’t even had a chance to read the replies. I just want to thank you for sharing this experience. I too am a 26/28 street dress size and I was thinking I would not find anything in a regular store. I thought I would be stuck ordering a dress online. Thanks soo much for your encouragement. I am definitely going to walk in some stores and see what I can find. Thank God I read this. God is a good God and he is worthy to be praised. I hope your wedding was wonderful.

I COULD NOT EVEN PICTURE MYSELF BEING STUFFED INTO A SIZE 16 DRESS. ABOUT A MONTH AGO I WENT TO MY MOMS HOUSE AND SHE PULLED OUT MY SISTERS WEDDING DRESS (WHICH WAS A SIZE 10) I LOOKED AT MY MOM AND LAUGHED… AS A JOKE I SAID THAT IS THE SIZE OF MY TIGH… WELL LOW AND BEHOLE, I PUT HER SKIRT ON MY TIGH AND ZIPPED IT RIGHT UP…. SO WITH 2 SIZE 10 TIGHS … STUFFING MYSELF IN A SIZE 16 WONT EVER HAPPEN…..
KEEP IT UP GIRLS… WE ALL RULE….

Hi..did you find your gown at David’s? I just saw one of your posts from 3 months ago. I have a salon in Salado, TX and I have a good selection of plus size gown and I’d love to help you out.

I am a street size (like Lane Bryant) 22/24 (sometimes a 26 if it’s form fitting) and ended up with an Alfred Angelo 26 (style #1243) that is a smidge big and will be taken in about an inch in the bust. I also am a 26 at David’s, so I was very relieved that I even found samples in my size to try on as I was really thinking I would need a 30 or even 32 since bridal sizes often run up to FOUR sizes smaller than street sizes. It was totally NOT the case for me w/these 2 chains….phew!
Curvy brides, don’t worry! There IS something beautiful out there for everybody! Good luck to all!
