Hmmm…How to incorporate your love of the law into your wedding? Get a pre-nup? just kidding…Maybe creative centerpieces with legal books? If you are like me, then you have a ton of old hardcover textbooks around the house that are pretty useless (property, evidence, etc.) Why not artistically arrange them as centerpieces. Other bees have done it (with non-legal books) so you could search the bee for book centerpieces.

Also, maybe have a custom cake topper.

Just to caution you: I see this as a theme that could be either really amazing or sort of corny if overdone. I don’t say that to be critical, just to warn you. Do it well and do it in moderation.

How about mini-justice scales? For the tables as centrepieces? And no I have the idea but haven’t a clue where to find mini ones!!!!!

Here’s a few ideas that popped into my head…

-Make a big deal about the signing of the marriage license

-The guestbook could be more of a contract to be signed

-Vow exchange could be ‘under oath’

-Celebrate (break) obsurd laws that are ‘still on the books’

****** For example, it is illegal to use a lasso to catch a fish in TN

@[email protected]:  Hello fellow lawyer couple! (My FH and I are both lawyers too) 🙂

First, what kind of law do you guys practice?  Lit or transactional work?  Let me know and I’ll think of some appropriate ideas for you guys!

Im following this thread for ideas. I’m not a lawyer but my fiance is a 2L at Michigan Law and I’m looking for some fun ideas to incorporate law into our wedding. Im definitely going to have Mich Law stuff on his grooms cake. I love the idea of vintage law school book centerpieces!

I’m a lawyer and my Boyfriend or Best Friend is in law school, so I’ve thought about this before!

  • I like the ideas of incorporating law books into centerpieces.

  • Are you doing a grooms cake?  You can do a cake of stacked law books and put a blue book on top.

  • What type of ceremony are you having?  You could incorporate readings from case law.  My favorite: From “Goodridge Vs. Department of Health” by Massachusetts Supreme Court Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall “Marriage is a vital social institution. The exclusive commitment of two individuals to each other nurtures love and mutual support; it brings stability to our society. For those who choose to marry, and for their children, marriage provides an abundance of legal, financial, and social benefits. In return it imposes weighty legal, financial, and social obligations….Without question, civil marriage enhances the “welfare of the community.” It is a “social institution of the highest importance.”
Marriage also bestows enormous private and social advantages on those who choose to marry. Civil marriage is at once a deeply personal commitment to another human being and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family…. Because it fulfils yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity, civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life’s momentous acts of self-definition.”

I would just do a few little things law-related and not make it the theme of your whole wedding.
