So I’ve never really written much on here, but you girls always seem so helpful. So I’ve decided to come to good old weddingbee for help.
I have a 1.02 ct princess cut diamond and it keeps coming loose! I’ve had it tightened 3 times since May, when I got it. The jeweler said the diamond is “settling into its place”.. but really? for this long! I feel like it should have settled by now. I’m worried because this is a ring I’m going to wear for the rest of my life and I don’t want to always worry it’s about to fall out or have to go to the jeweler every two months forever. They said I could put in bars along each side to stabilize it, but it’s a pretty penny we just don’t have right now. So I need help/advice. Have any of you had this problem? What should I do? thanks!

@olybride:Mine was giving me the same problem, the third time the jeweler said he took it somewhere else and it has been fine since then. If that hadn’t worked he said he would order me a white gold head since mine is plat and it’s easier to get loose.

I have never heard of this problem. I think you need to find another jeweler.

It sounds like either: (1) your jeweler isn’t very good or experienced at setting stones, or (2) you need a new setting.. I’m going to bet on option (1) though.. Needing a diamond to settle?!? I think not.. Take your ring elsewhere to get inspected and make sure it’s set securely.

“Settling” into it’s place? Um, that’s scary! I think that whatever setting you have it in (the prongs) is too big and needs to be changed out. Maybe your jeweler just doesn’t want to do that? I dunno, take it some where else, I wouldn’t want you to accidentally lose it because it’s still “settling”. Aah, so scary!

Mine did this too-It was set up high. I guess some people like their rocks high to make it pop a little more. So I got it lowerd down a bit so it was snug into the setting. It hasent done it since.

I agree, find another jeweler! I understand it getting loose once, but not three times!

what cherrypop11 said makes sense. I agree with the other girls too- take it to a different jeweler!
I don’t see how a stone is just “settling” into place. your setting should have been tight and solid when it was set the first time! the only reason it a stone would come loose is if it were not set correctly, or if a prong got bent after it was set.
get your ring insured too, just in case!

Thanks everyone! I think we’re going to go to a different jeweler. Hopefully they’ll be able to fix this problem.

Did you get the ring fix yet?
