We live in LA and we had our wedding in OC.  I did a ton of research and looked all over for a venue that wasn’t too expensive.  From my research, for what we wanted, the venues in LA were more expensive.  We found an awesome venue in Huntington Beach that was very affordable.  We loved working with them and it turned out amazing. If you end up doing it in the OC, message me and I can give you the details of my vendors.  They were all great to work with and very affordable. ๐Ÿ™‚  Good luck!

We ended up marrying in Santa Barbara (not any cheaper, it was just as if not more expensive) then LA/OC. ๐Ÿ™‚

@CelticBeachBride:  My BFF lives in Alhambra but has family in the IE, so she’s marrying in Corona, which is a lot cheaper and not too bad a drive. I would not do this for a summer wedding though. The IE is like the face of the freaking sun.

We lived in la together for years, currently live in MN (yuck) and are getting married in OC. When we were looking for venues we realized that NYC (where i grew up and all my fam is) was out due to $325 a head (no thank you) and MN was out because we don’t know anyone here, so we turned to our old faves in la/oc. Yes, venues are super expensive and since we are kind of a dw we had to calculate costs of traveling. Ultimately, sentimental reasons won out and we picked disneyland. It’s not cheap but definitely on par with other venues we were looking at and we end up getting more for the same price.

as a dw bride I have to warn that dw are tempting but things add up quickly. Are you budgeting for food everyday? Car rental, parking? All those little things that you don’t think of. Plus, vendor searching can get overwhelming since you may not be able to meet your vendors until a few days before your wedding. I don’t mean to be neggy nancy over here but it is definitely challenging at times.

@CelticBeachBride:  I totally feel you.  I was hoping to get away with $30k…but fat chance.  It’s sometimes discouraging to be on the Bee and see what other people across the country are spending.  And when I look up stuff like “how much should I spend on [vendor]” I read “OMG $x,000 is SO EXPENSIVE” when for us it’s double.  ๐Ÿ™  I’m sure there are ways to do things more budget-friendly, but we really have to dig and make sacrifices or suffer the wrath of the pocketbook.

I’m sure it’s the same way in other big cities like NYC or Chicago.  (Small consolation)

If my and FI’s families weren’t here as well and my mom didn’t want this to be a mini-reunion, I would be on a plane to a Destination Wedding so fast…just sayin’.

@LilDrAnya:  I realize you wrote this post a month ago but was wondering if you’d be willing to share some of your research w/ me…Fiance and I are from Toronto (born and raised!) and he has just moved to LA this month..and I am planning on joining him. We got engaged a couple weeks before he left and need to decide whether to have a wedding in Cali (which would be so beautiful – except my family is massive and would all need to fly out) or have a wedding in Toronto (which feels so typical since all my friends are getting married here). Anyway, I’m not at all familiar w/ Southern Cali and what venues are out there, etc…so any help you could offer would be great!
