I think I lost some weight, but just from having a cold. My weight fluctuates a lot ten or twenty pounds up and down, it does not show that much because most of the time it’s in my hips area.

Cutting carbs and eating more protein is the best way I think. Also some walking?

@Gingersnap: I gained about 20 pounds through college and graduate school (finished my doctorate last may), and just felt so gross when I graduated and Fiance proposed. I’ve lost 10 pounds since, and am working on an additional 5. After Fiance proposed, I started dieting and exercising around july or so, and lost 5 pounds by the time I started dress shopping in November.  By the time my dress arrived last week, I’d lost the full 10 pounds.  My exercise regimen has not been all that consistent, but I do try to make sure I stay active and do things I enjoy.  So, it took about 9 months for the 10 pounds?

In terms of dieting, I try not to eat heavy carbs (rice, bread, etc.) after 6pm.  Early dinners also help, and turning breakfast and lunch into my larger meals was working out pretty well for me (not great for social butterflies, but it’s been working okay).

Good luck with the weight loss. I totally understand how it changes how you feel, even if you just need to lose 10 pounds or so!

I am. Ten exactly.  I have lost a few lately.  Maybe three?  Its because Fiance is away on training so I am left to take care of all the dog walking, as well, I do all chores, get to work, etc.. by wallking/bus, since I don’t drive.  I think that burns a lot more calories than I gave it credit for! lol

I lost 15lbs for my wedding and I did it by eating smaller meals. I used smaller plates, so it would look like I was eating a lot, but the portions were actually smaller because of the size of the plate. I also added a salad to every evening meal, drank more water, cut sodas, and junk food. I also increased my activity by walking a couple times a week and parking farther away from the stores when I went shopping. I also have a smaller frame, so 15lbs was two dress sizes for me and it looks like I lost a lot more weight than I actually did because of my size.

@Gingersnap: You mentioned this on the chat thread the other night when I brought up how my photo was ok but not ‘me,’ or at least it doesn’t feel like it anymore. I have around 8-10 pounds to lose, but it fluctuates. I was a very strong/toned 114 in college during cheer, but now I haven’t been as active for a few years and I’m a much ‘softer’ 121-124. So I’d love to get rid of 10lbs and tone up.

I’m also waiting for the weather to turn so I can get some running/walks in. I don’t enjoy them all that much, but they sure do work for my body. Since I won’t be at the uni for the summer, I’ll be doing some Jillian Michaels DVDs as well.

@Gingersnap: Do you have a particular running plan you follow? I’ve been working on podrunner intervals (a few times, I don’t like running so I usually do 2 weeks and quit). Do you have something you like? I’m trying to find a routine that’s something I can stick with, and maybe even enjoy.

@Gingersnap:  Love pasta!   If you like quinoa it really is a great substitute for carbs and is a protein type of seed/grain.

Best of luck!

I am trying to lose another 5 lbs. I lost 3, but it literally took like 9 months. Everyone’s suggestions here are great, but know that when you have less weight to lose it’s harder and may take longer than when you have a lot to lose. Don’t forget to integrate some strength training in, as it increases your metabolism.

I’m also 5’5! I have always been small, but in my last year of university, stress and laziness caused me to gain 20lbs. I was the heaviest I’d ever been. I decided I couldn’t live like I was anymore. I loved pop! It was my biggest weakness. The only time I allow myself to drink pop is during the christmas holidays. Other than that…no pop for me. I have also cut down my fast food and take out intake. Becuase of those two small factors, I lost 15 lbs in about 5 months. I have 5 more lbs to go before I feel good about myself, although some people in my life are telling me that I’m good where I’m at right now. Little things can make a big difference!

I’ve recently lost 13 lbs.  I started WW (online) and going to the gym 4 to 5 times a week.  I just finished my 7th week on WW — so I’ve lost just under 2lbs per week.  I’m extremely pleased with my progess and don’t feel deprived hardly at all.
