17 lbs is awesome. That’s like losing a large cat.

I’ve been in the same boat. I gained some weight back, so now I just focus on thsoe areas. Just search what a pound of fat looks like. You’ll feel better about it!

For me, 17 pounds is there, but it is subtle–about 2 dress sizes, which isn’t a huge change going from 16-12. I’m not saying that to be discouraging, I’m saying that because it is what it is–if you’ve never embarked on a weight loss program before, losing 17 pounds seems like a tremendous amount, and it IS!, but the visual result might not achieve the psychological feel of 17 pounds.

It took 30+ pounds for my friends to notice and my DH NEVER noticed (seriously!) although he was mucho supportive. Another way to look at it is that although it’s hard to be patient, I’ve got some friends who lost a lot of weight and had the hardest time, emotionally, when they saw people they hadn’t seen in a while–ie, when the weight loss was dramatic as opposed to gradual, as it was for the rest of us. They report feeling sort of like a piece of meat or–worse–that they were treated differently. So maybe a slow adjustment isn’t such a bad thing.

You’ll get to where you want to be; just remember that even if it’s not what you expected right now, it’s still so worthy of celebrating! 17 pounds is a major accomplishment. Congratulations on being healthier and a wee bit foxier!

@bells219:  Yoga is a really great thing!  I have started doing it myself, (big butt, belly and all).  If you don’t push yourself, or think you have to compete with the others, it is a great exercise.  I like to think of it as using your body to help you through.  Unlike my one time experience with pilates which felt like I was using my body against me.

To OP, you have lost weight, pretty much twenty pounds when you round up.  🙂  Your clothes are getting loser, which is the true measurement.  Just keep going and soon, you will put on your jeans, and they will fall off.  THAT is when I realized I had lost weight…. even though others had been telling me, but I didn’t realize it.

When Im on a weight loss diet, I can never tell that Ive lost weight by looking at myself in the mirror, but my family can. I usually can only tell, by my clothing, and how it fits. I usually weight myself about once twice in a month, but take my measurements weekly. I use a great website, called Sparkspeople. I love the website, they are very helpful, and have many different message boards for all kinds of different things, around weight loss, the website does everything from calorie counting, to giving you a grocery list (depending on the food you eat) to a weight tracker, lets you put in your measurements from day one of your weight loss journey, and has you enter them weekly. I loved the website, it actually makes excersing and eating healthy fun =D

It because you look in the mirror everyday. Its hard to notice on yourself. I remember when i lost weight, i couldnt notice til I went shopping for pants, and once you try on a size smaller and they fit great, then thats when you really notice. Just keep it up, don’t quit! You are doing an awsome job so far.

I understand how you feel.. I’m currently down 50 lbs.. and I remember trying on jeans after I lost 20 lbs and being so discouraged, I had lost 20 lbs but didn’t change pant sizes, how is that possible?! Like the others have said.. just be patient and it’ll happen.. it maye take the loss of 20-30 lbs before you personally notice. You’ll get there!
