So Darling Husband and I have decided to try the South Beach Diet (I tried it for maybe a week a few years ago but quickly fell off). I have been having issues with weight gain (I am treated for hypothyroid but it isn’t “severe” enough for anyone to really take it seriously). For the past several months, I gave up gluten, so breads have already been cut out of my diet.
That is kind of what scares me, because, looking at the food list for phase 1… I don’t feel like I’m giving up a lot. Maybe some of the starchier veggies I eat occasionally, but other than that… I don’t pig out on carbs and sweets, so I have this terrifying thought that I’m already doing things right, and I’m still getting fatter!
Have any of you seen success on this diet?

I haven’t tried it (except for like a week and then I gave up becuase I had to really cut carbs). How long have you been on it? If you have been on it for less an 3 weeks I would keep going with it for at least a month or two. It takes time for your body to adjust to a new diet.
That being said, I am counting calroies with My Fitness Pal. Since doing that I have learned a lot about what I need for my body, and sometimes with things like Nutrisystem (which I was on for few months) and South Beach, you don’t get enough to eat.
I have no advice other than that about South Beach, but I do know people have had success on it. It just fails to last because it doesn’t teach you about portion control or going out to eat.

I’ve only been on the diet for a few days, just started, and I haven’t weighed myself at all yet. My concern is that it really doesn’t seem that different from the way that I normally eat! Thank you for your reply, and I’m glad MFP is working for you 🙂
