@figgnewton:  Its not uncommon for overweight women to lose some weight at the beginning of a pregnancy, but likely you will either put some of it back on or just even out (depends on how much there is too lose)

I know someone that did continue to lose weight throughout the entire pregnancy because of changes like you said, but towards the end she only lost about 2 lbs the last two months- so basically maintained. But what that means is she was losing weight at about the same time she was gaining.  She was under doctors supervision the entire time and was about 250 when she started.  She ended up about 230 and post baby was about 200.

I suppose it could be possible if the amount of weight you lose by changing to a healthier diet and lifestyle outweighs (pun intended) the weight you gain by being pregnant.

@figgnewton:  I doubt you will since you dont have a lot of weight to lose. Just keep eating healthy, the right amount of calories for healthy development and your body will do whats right for you.

You will gain some the baby weight but like you I lost weight and my whole pregnancy I only gained 13 lbs and that was almost all baby weight…

Maybe not the whole rest of your preg, but your lifestyle choices have changed so the weightloss makes sense.  Did you ask your Dr. this?

I think it’s safe weight loss since it’s because you are now living a healthier lifestyle for your baby. It’s not like you went from eating whole meals to eating just lettuce and water daily. You went from junk food and sodas to salads and water. I think if you are eating the appropriate amount of calories daily, I wouldn’t worry about the weight loss.

I assume your doctor is okay with the weight loss given your explanation?

@figgnewton:  It’s explained and he didn’t give you what for .. so … i wouldn’t be worried.  I know a few women that were overweight that lost at the begining, just from lifestyle changes.

oh and CONGRATS on the baby 😀 😀

@figgnewton:  I was over weight with both my second and third pregnancies (255 and 225) and only lost weight during both. I lost a little over 50 lbs with my second and a little over 30 with the second. At delivery I looked better than before I got pregnant! LOL I was worried about the weight loss the first time, but my doctor monitored me and the baby was thriving so there was no cause for worry. I had a bit of an issue with my third pregnancy (new doctor) but it wasn’t the weight loss so much as the doctor (she had a horrible bedside manor and actually accused me of starving myself, which I wasn’t) but again, baby was thriving and actually a certain point started measuring 2 week BIGGER than he should have (and go fig, he was 17 days early). I think as long as baby is growing the way they are supposed to, you’re taking your prenatals, eating and drinking enough water you should be fine. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
