So originally I was using an external flash drive for all my wedding stuff. I thought it was smart to be able to take it from computer to computer but of course it was too little to hold everything. Fiance gave me an external hard drive that he was not using. What a piece of crap that thing is!!! Not once but twice it has corrupted leaving me with almost nothing. Thank goodness I have been backing up onto my desktop but all my work from the last week is gone including the final draft of our Reception Card, all 7+FI+FFIL’s measurements painstakingly moved from emails onto one spreadsheet, all the research I did yesterday on chair rentals and who knows what else. The worst thing is probably the Reception Card as that is a pain in the booty to reproduce and get all the spacing, etc. ARG!!
Any other problems losing data out there?

oh my goodness yes!!! I had about 15 GIGS of pictures from a month long trip to Thailand. I’d combined them with like 4 or 5 of my friends pictures, which the cameras all had different time stamps for some reason so I had to organize all of them by hand to the right order, then renamed them all so the file name would keep them in the right order. Finally finished and the next time i go to plug my drive in, its ALL GONEEEEEEEE!!!! I just about shot through the roof. Luckily after trying out like 3 different data recovery programs, I was able to get it back. After that experience, I now back up all my important data and pictures, not once, not twice, but on 3 different hard drives.

oh no!!! last week i had dinner ready and was watching the last few minutes of a show on my laptop (on the table) and something scared my cat which made her pounce from floor to table into living room (one of those big square holes in the wall -not sure wha they are called) and she knocked the water over! my computer died! I was so supset, Fiance took it apart, tried to dry everything – no luck. next day tried again – no luck. SUPER forunately my HD didnt get wet so I was able to have all my files and pictures (relief!) and once he bought new memory it worked but those were a sad few days! hes such smartie, i would of ended up chucking it!
good luck working on your lost info 🙁

The good news is that the Reception Card is now done after sitting hunched over the computer last night for 2 hours. The other stuff can wait. All the information is in emails but I like having it organized into spreadsheets.
From now on I am backing up and will probably start backing up online as well. I mean the free back-up came with the computer so I should utilize it right?
@pinkshoes: My biggest fear with tech stuff is losing my pictures! The songs/movies I can always buy again but those photos are gold.
@thanlon_88: I know how you felt. I was in a bad mood all day and I sourced it back to losing that data!

I had a portable hard drive go corrupt on me. I lost everything… including a lot of websites and graphics files. I had some backed up but not all. I don’t even know what else i had on there. probably pictures and god knows what else 🙁
I back up everything now. If i save it to my portable HD i save it to my computer at the same time…. even if im at work. I used to be under the impression that my portable hard drive WAS a backup but i saved so much stuff on there that I didn’t save else where. Argh. I feel your pain.
