So in Sept 2011, the unthinkable happened. I took my beautiful e-ring off to bathe the puppy and do some house work, and when I went to put it back on, it was gone! I have sobbed uncontrollably for days over this. The house has been torn apart several times over, radio stations and newspapers were contacted just in case it made it outside. Substantial rewards were offered. Still no ring. My wonderful fiance offered to buy me another one, but to replace the original with a similar quality stone and setting, it will put us back $4000. I dont want to do that, but I’m horribly emotional over my naked ring finger (even after 5 months). That $$$ should be put towards our wedding, and I would feel incredibly selfish if he spent that much on me AGAIN. I have been checking out diamond alternatives, and have found moissaniteco.com. To get an almost exact ring with an amora moissanite stone in the same carat weight, it cost about $850. Has anyone dealt with this company before? How does a moissanite compare to a diamond (aesthetically speaking?) Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Lots of women here have moissanites, and from moissaniteco.com as well! I love my moissanite ring. It’s more sparkly than a diamond, almost as hard and beautiful!!! I highly recommend them. 🙂

I’m SO sorry that happened to you! I can’t imagine!
I happen to have a moissanite engagment ring from MoissaniteCo.com, and so do LOTS of other women here. Moissanite is an amazing stone, and I’m sure you’ll love it. I don’t have a whole lot of experience or knowledge of diamonds, but most women on here say they cannot tell the difference, and I can’t really either.
Here’s a picture of my ring if you’d like to see:

I am so sorry for the bad news! is there any way possble the puppy could have eaten it? I’ve heard of that before.
if you do go with moissy: I have a ring from moissaniteco and I really love it. it seems to be very high quality and I love their customer service. best of luck to you!

Did you check with your (or your fiance’s) homeowners insurance company? You should have some coverage for jewelry, even if it’s not the full value.

You should also consider looking online for preowned rings. Checkout the site idonowidont.com and diamondbistro.com!

@capergrrl: Aww sooo sorry this happened…bathing the dog makes me nervous for this reason too! I personally do not have a moissanite but from being on this site for a while, I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the price, quality and service.
PLUS, all the moissanite rings look beautiful on here! Check out some of the posts and you will see:)

Thank you all so much for your replies, @janie-janie, I actually had the puppy xrayed the same day. Poor little guy, I’m not sure who was more traumatized, me or him!
@smiles731, Thank you for that suggestion! I hadn’t considered that as a possibility, but I’m definitately going to look into it now.
I talked to my Mother last night about possibly getting a Moissy… she didn’t seem overly receptive to the idea. Her POV is that if i’m going to get a “fake” ring, I may as well get some costume jewellery from walmart instead of spending more $$$ on a “fake” diamond. I tried to explain that the moissy isn’t a fake diamond, it’s a different stone and the setting would be either real gold or palladium (which the original ring was set it). That way if my fiance and i decided to change the stone years down the road, we could use the same setting.

I never knew about moissanite until being on the Bee. After reading so much about it, I can honestly tell you that if my ring gets lost we will do a moissy replacement. So much more economical.

@capergrrl: oh, poor puppy! at least now you don’t have to monitor his poo.
anyway, as for your mom’s comment:
the reason why people go with moissy instead of a cheap wal-mart grade CZ is because it’s so strong and high quality, it should (in theory) last as long as a diamond. it could be your permanent ring if you wanted it to be, not just a placeholder.
for me, moissanite was not intended to be a short term solution. I chose it because I think it’s high quality enough to be “worthy” as my official wedding band. if I had gotten the same exact band with diamonds, it would have cost 2-4 times more (even if the diamonds were low quality and cheap).
but anyway, if it turns into a battle with your mom, just do a search for “moissanite” in weddingbee and show her all of the threads on it. maybe it will help change her mind. but then again, maybe not!

go for it! I loooove my moissy and get lots of compliments on it. I got engaged around the same time as another friend who has a $$$$ diamond ring and I never feel like mine is inferior or anything. We actually got mine from amazon (joyjewelers) but its a solitare with a thin dainty band. If you want a detailed setting moissaniteco.com is the way to go, hands down!
