@dewingedpixie:  Totally in the same boat! I got “let go” from a job a couple of months ago.. first one I didn’t leave by choice! I definitely didn’t love it and it was frankly a waste of my talents but it was a way to bring in money that I no longer have. It’s tough when you are planning a wedding, but somehow we’ve been making FI’s checks stretch. I would give you a big hug if I could, I know how you’re feeling.

@dewingedpixie:  Keep applying and pray!  Hang in there!!! Sorry you are going through this- it’s tough, but stay positive knowing better things may be in store than you could ever expect right now.  Losing this job might be the catalyst that leads you to something far better than you dared to dream.

@dewingedpixie:  I am sure you are. You can do this though- you are tougher than the problem and God is bigger than the problem.

@dewingedpixie:  Where one door closes, 10 more open! I hope that this turns out to be a really positive change for you, even though it really sucks right now!

I’m so sorry! 🙁  Keep your chin up and stay on top of the job search.  You’ll find something, even if it’s just a “meh” job to hold you over until you find something great.

My job doesn’t pay much, but our benifits are amazing.  Employees actaully call it the golden handcuffs.

You mentioned you need to have health insurance – any chance you could opt for COBRA? It’s not the best option, but I did it for over a year. it’s pricey, but for me, it was worth it. I was let go recently from my main job b/c they couldn’t accommodate some temporary problems of mine (health stuff) so I feel your pain. Hopefully a good job that’s a perfect fit was just waiting for you.

I was given my 2 month’s notice that our lab is out of funding, and I will be out of work 3 weeks ago. Since then 1 job has been posted that falls within my skill set. I think this will be a positive change though because this job gives me anxiety issues and makes me horribly lonely, even being unemployed might be better than the stress this causes. I’m going to move forward and attempt grad school again. I’m sure I will find something and it has to be better than this. I hope you find something as well.

BTW since it’s super important that you keep health insurance, I’m pretty sure you can keep it for a few months if you make the whole payment on it. It’s expensive, but it might bridge the gap until you can land something new.

Ugggggggggggh I was laid off of a job four months into wedding planning. I’d already had to fight for that stupid job and ended up taking a $3/hr paycut because no one even wanted to interview me. BOO. I’m fine without health insurance, though, seeing as I haven’t had it for like 10 years. :

@dewingedpixie:  I completely understand needing health insurance. I have some chronic health issues, and even with insurance i easily drop $400 minimum a month on co-pays. On the plus side, keep your receipts b/c if you spend over a certain percentage of your income on health stuff you can write it off on your taxes! (I had some co-pays from a hospitalization so this month I spent $1,670 so far.UGH). If it helps at all, my partner and I just got married at City Hall (by the mayor) a week ago and it was fantastic. We’re not going to have a more traditional wedding. Plus now I’ll get his insurance, which is really good.

Do you have a college degree? What kind of skills do you have? The company I work for is hiring in your location – PM me if you’re at all interested.
