Ugh, I am so sorry, al around the board. What a way to kick you when you’re down.

I don’ think there is much to say here other than… I know you will find an employer who deserves you.

I think I’d be going right around the ugly boss to someone higher.

And point out everything you have done and how much pride you take in your work.

((hugs)) I’m so sorry for your loss sweetie.

I can’t believe that after proving to be an incredibly hard worker and so dedicated to your work that they would treat you that way! That’s horrible! I agree, get your resume together and go to all of your competitors. This sounds like a blessing in disguise.

I’m so sorry. I agree that seeking legal counsel seems like the right move here. And pursue your well deserved unemployment!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I just wanted to say to take care of yourself. You’ve just had 2 of the biggest stressors happen at the same time, losing a loved one and losing a job. So just be extra kind to yourself right now (and don’t take crap from people who are not).

I still think you would be able to take legal action against the company you worked for. What your boss did just isn’t right.

I’m sorry to hear of your loss and my sincerest condolences to you and your friend’s family. I think you should contact a lawyer as the circumstances around your termination are highly unethical and in very bad form. Please contact legal counsel asap, document everything and apply for unemployment. Hang in there!

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss! It’s so sad that employers don’t take into consideration when you’ve lost someone close to you, even if it wasn’t a blood relative. You certainly don’t want to keep working for a company like that anyway. And when one door slams shut, another will open for you. Definitely hang in there and things will work out for you!

@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: all I can say is, wow, I’m so sorry for your loss and yes, that evil woman will absolutely get what is coming to her.

Leasing Consultant is the worst job ever, I did that for years and was fired after I miscarried my first child. I was in the hospital for 4 days recieved several blood transfusions and nearly died. My boss was also a supreme bitch, when I came back to work on day 5 (still beyond exhausted and sick) I found that I had been terminated while I was in the hospital for taking unapproved leave, like you they had no policies that covered emergencies, I was employed at their will, I was however, eligible for unemployment. The lady that reviewed my case was a sweetheart and told me that this was not the first time this sort of thing happened. I would say at least apply for unemployment. I am so sorry I really understand the pain involved with this.

@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: you deserve better! Do you have a spy in the office to tell you if the occ % goes down?

@pinkdiamonddolly: Not to thread jack, but this is making me feel soooo much better. I worked a temp job in a leasing office. I have temped on and off since the early 90’s and have always had great reviews. At this time I was getting over a long-term illness that left me unable to work for several years. I  was using temping to get me back in the working world. The first couple of days were great, but the bitchy boss was gone–the other girls really liked me. Then she came back and within a few days I was gone. (Those few days were hell. She gave me so much to do and every time I’d get to work on one thing, she would get mad that I wasn’t working on something else) Needless to say, she didn’t want me back and the temp company never put me on another job. I thought it was me, and my illness that made me a bad worker. Glad to read this thread–making me think it was more the nature of the industry than me.
